Not sure if intentional but I enjoy satire.

In retrospect, you’re right. Just hope things turn around by time conference play starts.

Heath will get pieces eventually in place!

EMU’s new offense is based on getting the ball into the low-post. Such makes no sense since EMU has poor shooters inside and was facing a superior opponent who could defend well inside. This was not a game to introduce a new offensive system that players recently learned.

Even in the first 13-minutes into the game,9 of EMU’s 22-points we’re 3-three’s that helped EMU be tied at 22-22. But over the last 7:34 minutes of the first-half, EMU committed 7 turnovers trying to pass the ball down low. Such led to EMU being outscored 31-6 over the remainder of the half. Game over. Golson and N.Scott combined for eight of EMU’s turnovers in the game.

Today’s game should be a wake-up call. Not only does EMU’s offensive scheme has to change so EMU’s players don’t have to drive into a cluttered paint only to be confronted big defenders.

EMU’s defense was equally as bad as EMU did not pressure the ball outside
and try to disrupt DePaul’s offense, nor did EMU attempt to force DePaul turnovers.

EMU compounded matters by sending it’s bigs to defend the high-post, not the rim, which resulted in DePaul’s bigs having an unimpeded path to the hoop for an easy scores.

To many EMU players played poorly. As McBride playing 28 minutes scored 0-points on 0-6 shooting, and Spottsville playing 22 minutes scored but 4-points. Both need to work on expanding their vision and looking for the open man when they start their drives to the hoop.

Binelli played 15-minutes scored but 3-points. Needs to roll to the hoop when opponents in his face stooping his three point shot.

Njie committed 4 fouls playing only 10-minutes. Feet are planted in cement. Might be better if he works in practice this season on his development.

HC Heath doing a good job giving everyone a chance to play so he can determine about can and who can’t contribute amen MAC play commended at the end of December. .

I would like to see N.Scott, Yusef, and Ballard play more. Suspect they the three players can consistently score more points, and are better overall players than Njie, Okongo, Binelli, and Golson. EMU is still in the process of finding out who can play and who can’t.

When Noah returns would like to see Luca, Noah, and Monty starting in the backcourt so EMU gets more consistent shooting from the backcourt. Luka prefers to pass first. EMU needs him to shoot first, pass later.

Off of defensive rebounds. EMU should make better use of EMU’s athletic guards by pushing the ball up the court on passes to guards further up the court.

I thought it was interesting that Depaul was picked last in the Big East pre season poll.

That’s because pollsters didn’t account for DePaul recruiting some terrific
transfers.

So nobody else in the Big East got any terrific transfers except DePaul?

DePaul is pretty good and I see them as a top 50 team. They best Western Illinois (WIU had them on the ropes), NKU and us. Our loss to NKU really stings

RE: DEPAUL GAME
What is your point ‘79? Is this an “I told you so” that we were overhyping EMU’s reconstitution under Heath. Probably true, but I think the reality is closer to our over optimism than your over pessimism.

BTW: CMU lost to DePaul by a similar margin (33 points). So while disappointing how badly EMU was defeated, I am not writing off the season due to one game in which EMU’s primary star was injured and a secondary star had a (rare) woeful 0of6 scoreless effort.

Before seeing EMU play, ‘79 picked EMU to finish last in the MAC.

If EMU stays healthy, we can be a top 4 team in the league.

It was a coache's poll and it was mid October. I kinda doubt that the other Big East coaches were totally unaware of DePaul's transfers.

RE: DEPAUL GAME
Kudos to EMU’s Monty Scott and Noah Farrakhan:

According to Realgm advanced stats, Monty Scott is ranked as the No. 1 SF scorer in the MAC, and 28th highest SF scorer in the nation. Scott is also among MAC’s top 5 SF’s in 2 and 3-point shooting percentages, assists, and steals.

Noah Farrakhan is ranked no.1 PG scorer in the MAC, and no. 32 highest PG scorer in the nation. Farrakhan is also ranked 4th in the MC in free-throw percentage.

For sure we will go as far as Noah and Monty take us. If we stay healthy and can develop some more scoring especially from the front court, this team could be very dangerous heading into the MAC tournament. Our tough OOC schedule is certainly going to help us for MAC play

That’s interesting’79….this Liberty kid on DePaul may end up being Big East Player of the year. I think DePaul is still undefeated but like most P5 programs, I believe they’ve played their games at home. I believe DePaul will be a NCAA tournament team.

I agree. Don’t see any dominating teams in the MAC. Believe EMU will be able to compete with the MAC’s top teams, in part, because both MScott and Noah Farrakhan, are the 5th and 6th highest ranked scorers in the MAC.

EMU’s front court players haven’t consistently shot well in the six games EMU has played. That’s why I’m anxious to see if either Ballard and Jihad can provide some consistent scoring, and also be good defenders and rebounders.

There are problems with the backcourt as both McBride and Spottsville both played many minutes and have not shot very often. Last season, McBride shot more and shot well. Both players need to improve their court vision as they don’t look to pass the ball to open shooters especially when they drive to the hoop.

Luca seems to have picked-up his game as he’s shot his three’s well. He does need to transition from being a passer to looking to shoot more. I hope he plays more in the remaining non-conference games. Would like to see if Luka can earn being EMU’s third starting backcourt player. If Luka shoots well that will alleviate some of the pressure on EMU getting better shooting from it’s front court.
