BS on this Board
I have already voiced my frustration with the fourth down call and with Coach Clark’s conservatism in general, and I stand by those comments.
However, the over-the-top criticism of his ability as a coach I have found here is frankly some of worst BS I have read in quite some time! Come to think about it, the last time I read that kind of crap was during the last time I visited this board several years ago. Now I remember why I quit coming here.
I get it. when fans witness a loss in a very important game that in their mind shouldn’t have happened, they get mad and the tendency is to attack the the coach, not only for the mistake they think hemade, but also his coaching ability in general. That’s the nature of being a FANatic.
However, we all fail to remember that if the defense had held UTSA without getting close to the goal line after the punt, none of us would have dared to criticize Coach Clark, including me. On the other hand if we gone for it on fourth down and failed, some of these Monday morning quarterback’s would be screaming that we should’ve kicked the ball, though they won’t admit that now.
Now I have a few questions for those who not only question the call on the field, but also Clark’s ability as a coach:
What other coach that UAB I had a realistic chance of recruiting after football was reinstated who could have quickly built back our football team from virtually nothing into a winner our first year back?
(Let me remind you that for his work Clark was elected Conference USA Coach of the Year, CBS Sports National Coach of the Year, and Bleacher Report National Coach of the Year, among other honors.)
What other coach could have won the C-USA Championship title and our first bowl game our 2nd year back?
[Let me remind you that Coach Clark was elected Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year (FWAA), CBS Sports National Coach of the Year, and Sporting News National Coach of the Year, among other honors.]
What other coach could have won three Western Division Championships in a row and two C-USA championship in his first four years after bringing our program from back from oblivion?
Do you think that right now UAB could recruit a better coach to lead our program into the future?
(I have no respect for the football knowledge of anyone who would answer this last question with a “yes”.)
For the “what have you done for me lately” crowd who believe that Coach Clark has “maxed out” on what he can do at UAB, let me remind you that we just lost to unbeaten team ranked 15th in the nation on their home field by two inches. Only Cincinnati in the group of five conferences is ranked higher than UTSA and they will be going to a power five conference in 2023. Yes, a grand opportunity was lost, but that doesn’t mean that Clark is not the best coach for our program right now.
In addition, the future is bright. UAB has for the dominated C-USA for the last four years more than any team and I look forward to joining the AAC. Of the future teams of the AAC, aside from UTSA only SMU and East Carolina are currently ranked higher in the consolidated computer polls, and East Carolina is only two places higher. I am anxious to see how the increased exposure of the AAC will improve UAB recruiting.
All of that said my suggestion is to quit bitching and moaning and be thankful for our blessing because I think you are going to really regret it if Coach Clark someday leaves for greener pastures. That day may come soon enough, but let’s not drive him away with bull****!
