RE: Rice women vs Pacific
Shouldn't we go to a half court offense with so many injuries and short handed?

Not when your 2 best perimeter shooters are out with injuries.

Pacific almost upset #16 Oregon State on the road today in Corvallis. They led by 5 with a bit over 3 minutes to go, but ended up losing by 4. On the bright side, they had almost twice as many free throws as Oregon State :)

Unrelated, but Langley's Washington tenure is off to a rough, rough start. Just scored a combined 84 points in losses to VCU and UNC. 40 total turnovers, which was always an issue at Rice. Mulkey shooting just 39% on the year, but Schwartz has struggled even more: 30/24/100 shooting splits with 3+ turnovers a game.

On a more positive note for former Owls, Sydne Wiggins has been really good for SMU (up until last game, in which she was 0/12). 40/35/82 shooting splits, 13.1 ppg and 3.3 assists. Jasmine Smith has struggled scoring (29/28/57 shooting splits) but has been a good distributor (4.1 assists).

Former Rice coaches don't have a track record of doing well elsewhere after leaving Rice. Watson Brown, Scott Thompson, Fred Goldsmith, Todd Graham.

David Bailiff seems to be an exception, at least so far, although his second year was not as good as his first.

I could never understand why Sydne didn't look for her shot more when she was here as she was a big scorer in high school.

BTW, any word on the severity of Crosthwait's injury. Certainly looked bad, but there's been absolutely no news about whatsover; not even acknowledging that she got injured.

Todd Graham has done extremely well for himself.

Todd Graham has done extremely well for himself.

Better for himself than for his employers.

Several years ago, a bunch of us Parliamentarians decided to have dinner together at Damian's the week of homecoming (aside, maybe we should make that an annual tradition). During the pre-dinner cocktail hour, somebody remarked, "If it hadn't been for Todd Graham, Rice might not have a football team today." To which someone else replied, "And if he hadn't left when he did, Rice might not have a football team today."

All of those seem to be guys who were hired away for supposedly better jobs... except Bailiff who was released and went for a 'lesser' job. To me that implies that we still aren't getting guys whom other schools SHOULD want and they are simply benefactors of an 'impression' of doing well here because of things that are unique to Rice.

And also has overtime wins over Houston and North Texas.

It's going to be a tough task for a shorthanded team (it looks like the walk-on is no longer on the roster, so at a minimum, we're at 10 players; but my guess is Crossthwaite isn't available, and Swayze and McCurry have yet to play this season).

I wonder if any of the volleyball players might be willing to try a second sport now that their season is over? It's probably worth a shot for Edmonds to reach out to them somehow.

Likely not due to his 14–18–3 record at Rice ... although his .443 winning percentage is 6th best among our Owls' 19 head football coaches.

.655 -- Philip Arbuckle: 51–25–8 (1912–1917,1919–1923)
.538 -- Todd Graham: 7-6 (2006)
.536 -- Jess Neely: 144–124–10 (1940–1966)
.530 -- Jimmy Kitts: 33–29–4 (1934–1939)
.500 -- Jack Meagher: 26–26 (1929–1933)
.443 -- John Heisman: 14–18–3 (1924–1927)
