SBC money
I think I read on this board or the SBC board one reason why other SBC members wanted us out was because they didn't think it was right that we share in the espn football money when we don't have a football team. It was my understanding that we did not get any of the football money. When we were considering adding football, money was a definite problem for us but less of a problem than most thought because we would start receiving SBC football money.

does anybody else remember seeing that sharing football money was a reason to dump us or was I dreaming?

I have been confused about this issue. I would assume that we don't share in the "football" money- wouldn't make a lot of sense for us to do so. But I have no real knowledge about this. However, it is possible that the sharing of league revenue is an issue that plays a role in wanting us and UTA out of the league.

Well I agree, we should not share in the football money. if we stopped receiving football money, would the football SBC teams feel better about letting us stay?

League Bylaws that were written very long ago. Long before most of the current league membership had joined.

As amusing as your theory is, Astate alone doesn’t have the power to “muscle” you or UTA out; everything is voted on (and majority has to prevail)

And by all accounts, there hasn’t even been a “vote” or mandate issued just “strong encouragement” and “hints” to look to other options.

I never believed ASU wanted us out. We have a great rivalry but it is limited to the court and fields.

Your problem at present is that App State and Coastal are pushing hard for the SBC to get rid of its non-football schools. And they have the support of the entire Eastern Division at present.

The real issue App has is we've spent decades in conferences that have allowed members that didn't support FB. We've seen what happens when they don't fully support BB and the drain that happens on conference perceived strength. But we've also been on the other side of that; when a school fully finances the sport and dominates the conference (Davidson/CoC/UNCG).

Honestly, there's not an athletic department that will force a vote to remove any members. And if UTA leaves for the MVC I think the LR/ASU travel arrangements work in favor of the eastern members. At least until the possibility of an ECU add to the conference; 15 is not bad.

Would LR fans rather be in the SBC or in an OLY only OVC that puts focus on basketball?

I for one would much rather be in the Sun Belt than any other options we have. I think the new additions make our basketball stronger

Awesome! Personally I like LR in the conference. A place that is easy to get to, has a sport (Wrestling) that I'd like to see App schedule yearly in OOC and a 15 team SBC would make scheduling very easy. Also, if the basketball tourney somehow makes it back to Hot Springs having the LR faithful there in mass would look good for everyone.

15 teams does make scheduling easy in basketball! A lot easier than 14.

Change is often exciting and I have enjoyed "studying" our possible options. But, in the end, I agree with Karl. Staying in the "new and improved" Sun Belt would really be better than any other option out there. Not even sure I would rather be in the MoValley, if that was actually an option for us. But, if they did offer us a spot it would solve the problem in a way that would make everyone happy. Actually, the teams that the MoValley is looking at adding, UTA, UMKC, and Murray State (along with the recent addition of Belmont) would give the league a much more southern flavor and all be natural rivals for us. Just doesn't appear to be in the cards for us at this time.

Just for the record. I would rather we (UTA) stay in the Sunbelt also. I do not think the MVC will invite us. I really believe we will wind up in the southland , which I don't mind , but I would prefer the SBC over all of our options
