Exclamation Players Response
Plenty to debate on the coaches performance this season, but I’ll hang my hat on how the players have responded on the field. Through injuries, heartbreaking losses and impressive wins, the players have never quit on this staff. They’re still bought in. The effort is still there every week. Couple of things play out differently, and this team is still an 8-9 win team despite the rash of injuries.

Time will tell on this coaching staff, but I’m content that the guy in charge is still the right one based on how the players continue to leave it all out on the field.

See y’all Saturday.

Go Tigers!

That is the key point of this season. The players have not quit. That is very important.

I think this game might be sit where you want game.. many factors with the holidays, night game, fickle fans and gunsmoke reruns on

Also factoring in is our current coaching staff driving the program into the ground. There will be < 15k fans there Saturday night, maybe even < 10k. I will be in attendance like every home game, however, we will look back on this game in a few years as the "Tulane" game like we've fawned over the "ECU" game when the program was nosediving.

Sorry, if we cannot beat a 2-8 football team (who have beaten the Mighty Morgan State Bears & USF Bulls) we need a complete overhaul of the coaching staff. There will be nothing to buy into after that. I feel bad for the players - they are the ones being failed, yet we allowed them to make an emotional decision to hire a player's coach. Quite the conundrum.

Many players have not quit, and seem to love the coach.
I'm not so sure about others.

Huh? Bad analogy. Anyway, being able to continuously motivate your players, especially in a tough season like this, is pretty damn vital to being a good coach. Lots of other factors to being a good coach, but this is so obviously important that it simply can’t be argued. Great motivator doesn’t = great coach, but a great coach will be a great motivator.

I can... but I won't. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the way to look at that is: Man.... if the coach is bad enough to draw out a member of the board that only posts 22 times per year, maybe he is just THAT BAD.

Great motivator is just one factor of a good coach/CEO but there are lots of other factors that are needed

It’s a bad analogy because it assumes coaches and players are equals (co-workers), ignoring the fact that the “CEO” in your analogy (CRS) was already the #2 in the company (Asst Head Coach), i.e., he’s proven himself internally, and he has the experience (including NFL) that all point to his qualifications, far beyond you’re ridiculous implication that he was hired because the players like him. So he had the resume and track record that all point to being a good hire.

He (just like any HC) will ultimately be held accountable to results on the field. My point is a simple one - in a year where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, the team held it together and continue to grind - a great indicator to the leadership of our coach. Not an easy feat, and a good sign that we do, in fact, have a competent (perhaps even a good) head coach.

We have a lot of that here now in both football and basketball. Makes the game threads unbearable.

Must be from that board of malcontents GTS warned us about.

Real revisionist history there. Those teams were getting rocked weekly. Players eventually (and understandably, in that particular case) rolled over.

Exactly, there were many games they quit. I also remember a true freshman starting QB who quit & transferred.

Anyone comparing these teams to Porters are at best greatly exaggerating the current state of affairs. I will take back this response when a Sun Belt team beats us my 40+, or middle of the conference is constantly beating us by 2 TD’s or more.

Has Silverfield made some mistakes, absolutely, but a 1st time HC will make some, could he be setting a tone for how he will do things (aggressive on 4th down, & will try to establish a run game & impose our will with a lead) maybe, hopefully he & the team grow & we get back to a level we now expect here.

I can... but I won't. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the way to look at that is: Man.... if the coach is bad enough to draw out a member of the board that only posts 22 times per year, maybe he is just THAT BAD.

You probably should, because if you think his coaching is "that bad" you don't know much about football.

It's amazing how a coach that can lose an All-American some even considered a dark horse Heisman candidate the week prior to the season, then lose one of their best players after the second game. Have to have a FOUR WEEK complete shutdown of the program in which the athletes and coaches weren't even allowed in the athletic facilities, overcomes all that and finishes 8-3 and wins a bowl game can in one season totally forget how to coach. At the same time bring in two of the highest ranked recruiting classes in history with his third on the way.

This season we have had 40 players in our two deep miss playing time, some multiple games. We've had to play 24 freshman, more than any other team in our conference. We have such a good reputation among other players that we have SEC scholarship players transferring to be walkons at Memphis.

I won't call them a troll, but I will say they are likely clueless or have an agenda.

So he's been here 10 years, and has only posted on average 22 times PER YEAR.

Has posted 16 times in the past 6 weeks and ALL are attacking Silverfield.
