RE: Next WMU AD should be?
I'm curious how "COVID screwed us out of Saddi". I know the hiring freeze was the speculation at the time, but Saddi came out and directly told the media he turned WMU down. So.. I don't know.

I played a “non revenue” sport at wmu but I’m also a realist. The big 3 wmu sports bring the awareness, recognition, merchandise, water cooler talk, and can get a large university excited. That’s just fact. We have one football championship, two basketball, one hockey all this century. That’s mediocre. A tennis championship feels great for the student athletes. But it doesn’t affect the larger university.

I understand this POV but I just can't support it. I played one of the big three sports and some of my best friends were "non-revenue" athletes. All student-athletes should matter. Because being successful in those sports and supporting them means they turn into happy alumni which turn into future donors & advocates for future people to send their kids to WMU. I think this has been a major problem of the KB administration (it's the view at a lot of schools, not just WMU). Non-revenue sports have very successful and wealthy alumni but they do not give back financially (I know some that won't even come back to campus) because of how they were treated. I think it's a grave mistake that are a lot of our non-revenue athletes graduate and don't feel valued.

Definitely fair! I think people make the mistake in thinking that Saddi turned it down solely on financial terms. Saddi is an incredible family man - he's smart and loyal. He turned down numerous job offers at Oakland to stay where his family was comfortable. The world was spinning out of control and nobody knew what the next day would look like. He'll never tell me - but I believe Saddi wasn't willing to put his family through that.

RE: Next WMU AD should be?
The Hawkins-COVID-Saddi timeline was fuzzy at best, and I don't think we'll ever be sure what went on behind the scenes other than standard courtesy quotes to the media (this is when we needed a Couch/Drew beat writer to dig deeper).

Just guessing here, but my interpretation is that WMU was planning to really open up the checkbook for Saddi.

Literally days after Hawkins was let go, COVID lockdowns strike and we were forced to seriously reduce the salary offer, now just riding on the hope that a Div I head coaching position would be enticing enough to bring him here. Which it obviously wasn't.

After that, the $200K salary and internal hire went to Bates.

Again, more a theory than anything.

Does anyone know when they are going to announce the new AD? Have they chosen one yet?

RE: Next WMU AD should be?
Since multiple outlets reported it this morning, I see no reason to keep it a secret. One of the finalists for our open AD job is Hampton SWA, Dr. Paula Jackson (https://hamptonpirates.com/staff-directo...kson/182). Also been reported that Louisville Interim AD withdrew from the search, as mentioned previously on this board.

Now that's been announced on social media, I'll put it out here - the other two finalists are linked below. I've heard some rumblings about the interviews but I'll keep that to myself. Down to three - I also did confirm that no internal candidates were given serious interviews.

RE: Next WMU AD should be?
After taking a cursory look at the finalists' resumes, these look like some solid options. Not that I'm an expert on any of this.

I also have no idea what a "Senior Woman Administrator" is or does.

Same. They're all really good. Wonder what they're all making now & what we're willing to spend. That's what it'll come down to, I think.

Executive Deputy AD - Oregon St
Executive Associate Senior AD - USC
AD - SDSU
Senior Woman Administrator - Hampton

Candidates and resumes look quite appealing and looks like WMU is doing a great job in the search. Applaud so far

Remember - WMU isn’t hiring the best candidate for WMU. They will be hiring the candidate that the search firm puts in front of them. It’s a political game

How incredibly racist for you to say that. Stop embarrassing my alma mater. Both racist and anti-vaxx? Very impressive.
