I'm sorry, but we weren't close to being ready to play this game. This coaching staff isn't doing anything to light a fire under anyone. The players aren't even trying to play for each other. No fire, nothing. I'm ready to give up. Sorry if this is harsh, but I go way back to before the Parkhills, and I would never see anything resembling what we have this year from coaches who had a handle on the team. I'm embarrassed. Of course I will continue to watch and go to games, but I'm not sure the casual fan will.

I'm with you. I go back to Chambers. My first season tickets were when Balanis was couching. I won't give up either!!

RE: Game #6 Radford
The 6-26 season was every bit this bad. Quinn McDowell and Kendrix Brown were the seniors (along with Rocco's favorite player of all time, JohnMark Ludwick) and Matt Rum was the only significant junior, echoing our current roster balance. The good news is that Rusthoven, Britt, and Thornton started becoming the players that took us to the 20 win season standard. The bad news is it didn't happen for 2 more seasons. Starting Rum over Thornton for a non-zero number of games and not forcing Quinn McDowell to sit out and fully recover from his knee (ankle?) injury were symptoms of two major problems I had with Coach Shaver's coaching style.

Yeah, I’ve heard of a few players who allegedly complained about sitting when they wanted to play. Malinowski is another one who immediately comes to mind. Same people who would complain about being forced to rush back from injury.

Shaver was also allegedly mean. Whatever, I don’t think the current status of W&M MBB leaves us any room to bang on Shaver.

By the way, I’m trying really hard to avoid going down that road…

Fair enough. The parallels from this season to that one have all the worst of Shaver on my mind. But we were 10 years in at that point. When things go bad the worst things get magnified. I still feel like I don't really know any of Coach Fischer's tendencies, good or bad.

The comparison between Brandon Britt and Yuri Covington jumps out at me also. With Britt it seemed like he was always too fast for the ball to keep up. Yuri has that kind of speed, but it's more his vision that can't keep up.

One step forward on Sunday when we played Howard and two steps back tonight.

Hopefully our scrimmage against Mary Baldwin will help get the players mindset straight before our trip to Navy and Davidson next week

Our starters scored 26 points and committed 14 turnovers. Enough said. Unbelievably poor stat line against a relatively weak opponent.

The Mary Baldwin game is classified as a DIVISION 1 EXHIBITION game on the Mary Baldwin athletics website.

If the Fighting Squirrels win, I can guarantee they won't count it as an exhibition.

RE: Game #6 Radford
I watched the game in person, and I echo much of the despair others have expressed already. I'll give a few notes from the perspective of someone on the ground.

First off -- A $12 General Admission ticket got me seats right behind the team of my choice. I haven't been to any other RU games, but - for them - I hope their games with students on campus are better attended. Otherwise, if you want good seats for some Big South action, Radford has you covered.

Second -- That vantage point enabled me to see that Quinn Blair had thought he was starting the game and was seated with the starters for introductions. I forget who was named in his place, but it made for an awkward moment when he stood up to join the rest of the team clapping. Dane pulled him aside and chatted with him afterwards. Both were smiling. Probably nothing.

Third -- We provided a huge morale boost for Radford, as they needed a win almost as much as we did, and beating an in-state foe with a solid reputation helped. A group of middle school basketball players started chanting "overrated" at us during the second half. I think we should be proud that W&M developed a respected reputation over the past decade or so. I hope we don't lose it.

Bottom Line -- This team is difficult to watch. No one seems to have the confidence to try to put the team on their back. I don't know if any of them have the ability, but I'd love to see a little more fire in the belly.

Others have noted how future stars were waiting in the wings during bad stretches in the past. I hope there's a Marcus Thornton somewhere on this team waiting to burst onto the scene. But I don't know who it would be.

This is not good and should never occur. Leads me to think the team has issues that transcend the players and lead to the coaching staff.

Watch the ESPN+ replay and these were good announcers.

Did not realize how BAD the Radford teams is this year. They only scored 33 points in last game against Navy plus prior to our game was winless in Division I. Also found out Kochera went to the same high school that Dane coached and Dane knew Kochera as he was growing up.

Radford was one of the worst shooting % of 3's going into the game but with we left them wide open shots from 3 hitting 40% during the first 24 minutes of the game.

Wanna know the stat that sums up the season?

Rice, Carroll, Yuri, and Lewis are 20/85 (.235) from 3 on the season.

Connor is 10/21 (.476) and you'd never know it.

Either defenses are keyed on Connor and our other shooters are missing favorable shots or we need to work harder to get the ball to Connor outside the 3 point line.

The broadcasters were incorrect. At least, which coach they were referring to. The coach with ties to Saint Viator and Kochera is assistant Mike Howland.
