Exclamation Sonny Dykes to TCU

I lost a lot of respect for Dykes with this move. How do you leave your school for its rival?

You know the answer:

He doesn't even need to move.

TCU is desperate. Dude gets fired from Cal and comes here to the AAC and basically finishes 4th or 5th most years while loading up on transfers. Don’t think he ever won a big game in the AAC.

He’s not better than the guy he’s replacing.

LOL.

Similar to when Brett Butler was promoted to the Braves. And that was when most people in Atlanta had actually seen the movie.

I wonder if the ESPN plus show will show behind sense communication between TCU and Dykes.

Sign Gary Patterson quickly, maybe VT will poach him from you, and then SMU can go get Kendal Briles as the next coach.

I would think SMU could do better than Lashlee.

Sure he would since that Miami staff may be getting canned in a week.

RE: Sonny Dykes to TCU
If this happens I honestly think SMU can upgrade. Dykes has a good finesse offense but they aren't physical and tough and it shows. Down the stretch they struggle when the weather gets cold and usually get beaten by any top tier teams. I never felt that SMU would ever win a conference title with him. I would go hard after Patterson or even Fuente who I think would be a huge upgrade.

That would be awesome. He's only 61 -- could coach another 10+ years if he really wants to. I don't think Dykes is a huge loss, and it seems like a lot of SMU fans agree. I think he did a good job recruiting for SMU and I don't mind the transfer portal strategy, but the guy is not a great coach or motivator. I know there are a ton of open jobs out there, but SMU should still be able to make a good hire if they don't mind taking a chance on a coordinator. Find a young guy who is a great recruiter and has relationships with Texas high schools -- preferably an offensive coach. I'm generally not a fan of retreads, but I don't think Tom Herman would be a bad hire. He's young enough to still have something to prove. Either way, SMU will be just fine.

I don't know if either guy would be interested, but if you go for an up-and-coming guy, Marcus Freeman (Notre Dame/former UC DC) and Brian Hartline (OSU WR coach) would be home run hires IMO. They are Midwest guys, but both recruit nationally and are great at it.

Any thought given to completing the swap and hiring Patterson? It was just 4 years ago he had the Frogs at 11-3 (#10 in the nation). If Patterson isnt burned out---he's certainly shown he can take G5 to the promised land.

Well maybe SMU can find someone whose teams don't flop at the end of the season.
