Miami Game
This one turned into a playoff game. (Has this ever happened at Dix?) To say the least I'm nervous. We got the monkey off our back of becoming bowl eligible. Kent will play another game after Saturday. But wouldn't we want to play 2 more games??

Also irritated we got screwed playing the same time as OSU/Michigan on Thanksgiving weekend. Biggest game at our stadium in years, if not ever, and the place will be bare.

Nov 10, 1973. 15th ranked Miami came to Kent , MAC championship on the line. Kent I believe was also ranked . We had one loss 17-9 to a great SD State team. Kent beat Louisville and Utah State that year and only MAC loss was Miami ,finished 9-2 . 27,000 on a cold snowy day at Dix. Kent lost 20-10. Miami went undefeated . Miami beat Florida easily in Tangerine bowl. Miami also beat Purdue that season.
If we get 7000 Sat I’ll be surprised

I was there. Remember it like it was yesterday. I believe Kent State WAS ranked. At the very least, they were at times that season. That was the best team they ever had. It was, for all intents and purposes, the MAC championship game, although Kent State had two remaining MAC games, which they won easily, as expected.
That was the biggest game ever at Dix, as it was for the MAC title, not just a division title (they had no divisions in 1973). This upcoming one is the biggest since then.

Athletic Department is trying to get the students to the game. Thanksgiving weekend, OSU game, there are several factors that will lead to nobody being at the game. Hell, its even on ESPN+.

The algorithms say it is about 50/50. Should be a good game. Hopefully our defense plays on another level than we have been.

The fact that "OSU game" even need be mentioned as a factor is such a sad commentary. I know there are Kent State fans that are also OSU fans, and I have no problem with that. But this Kent State alum only cares about KSU.

I am curious about the crowd. In 2012,the game after Thanksgiving, was against OU. MAC East was already clinched, I know they were ranked, but there was a very nice crowd for that game.

It's forecast to be "mostly sunny" and with a high of 39. Not bad for late November.

Muskrat. I just researched AP rankings for 1973. Week of 11/5 , the week of the game Kent 7-1 was ranked 19th (rankings then 20 teams not 25 ) Miami 8-0 ranked 17. Interesting after beating Kent, Miami did
not move up the following week. Kent dropped out.

That game was without doubt the only time in Dix Stadium history two
Ranked teams played each other.

Miami after beating Florida in Tangerine Bowl finished 11-0 and ranked only #15. No respect
for MAC as usual. Nothing changes

The lack of respect for the MAC makes no sense to me. If the conference is so bad then why do our coaches get poached almost every year. It just drives me crazy to see how the MAC is viewed especially by ESPN who owns the TV rights. All it would take is them speaking positively about the MAC and there would be more ranked teams and more eyes watching "MACtion" in November making more money for ESPN.

Yes, and why do so many MAC players play in the NFL? And there has been no shortage of MAC NFL stars. Just off the top of my head among more recent players you have Antonio Brown, Roethlisberger, Edelman, Cribbs, James Harrison.... by no means a complete list. It didn't used to be so bad. And the sports media has made things worse. With the print media strapped for resources coverage below the Top 25, especially Ohio State in Ohio, gets almost no attention. And keep in mind that before the early 1980s when the NCAA lost in court, the NCAA controlled coverage. There were national and regional games on ABC, the network with the rights a long time, and no team could be on more than like 2 or 3 times a year. More programs got exposure.

No just NFL stars, but often high picks so everyone knows they're worth watching while still in college. Corey Davis, Kahlil Mack, ans Eric Fisher are some recent top 5 picks I remember.

RE: Miami Game
Just a quick check and there are currently at least 5 schools in the top 25 that have former MAC head coaches. I may have missed some though. There are even more that held position coaching jobs but didn't seem right to include them.

Alabama - Nick Saban
Notre Dame - Brian Kelly
Wake Forest - Dave Clawson
NC State - Dave Doeren
San Diego State - Brady Hoke

RE: Miami Game
I don't think anyone would try to make the case that the MAC is as good as any of the Power 5 conferences, but that isn't the point. The point is that most of the sports media portrays them as not "really" FBS, in some great wad between "true" major colleges and tiny D III schools, and therefore the casual football fan has a false idea about mid-major football.

That’s not a late hit? Five yards out of bounds and our sideline…

RE: Miami Game
What a run by Crum, reminiscent of Edelman, albeit slower and more deliver.
