It's cause we play a very free and open style of play. It does suck at times, but it also allows the freedom for the big plays and fun plays we get to see.
Winston's a big fan of the Balado style of play, I suggest you switch to a bunch of guys standing around doing nothing for 25 seconds before you do anything. He loves that.

Here's a little history for you. In 1972, I was VERY excited to watch my Herd play a school I had never heard of (Southwest Louisiana...now Louisiana) in the NCAA first round basketball tournament. Yeah, I knew they had the nation's leading scorer (Dwight Lamar) but we had a tremendous team, led by Mike D'Antoni, Russell Lee and Tyrone Colins that was ranked as high as 8th in the polls, and finished 12th in the polls. We couldn't lose!
I distinctly remember that from the first play of the game that these guys from Louisiana were off to the races. Future NBA coach Mike D'Antoni (our point guard and a superb defender) turned around at the top of the key and all he saw was Lamar's knees in his face sinking a jumper. We were doomed from that first shot.
It was a great game, but although the final score favored the Ragin' Cajuns by 112-101 (I had to look that up), I do remember that the game wasn't as close as that score indicated. I had considered making the trip out to Albuquerque to watch a victorious Herd team sail through the Region, but now very happy I didn't make that trip. It would have been a short one!
We played you all the next season, and lost that one too. Oh, yeah, I remember the Ragin' Cajuns, alright. So not sorry, we took a little revenge last week!

We also beat them in Huntington in 1995 77-70 in Billy The Kid's last year and then in the CajunDome in 1996 71-61. I was at both games. I was dressed out in Green and White in the CajunDome and the team spotted me right away when they come out. I also had to explain to some what Marco was and how he actually got his name. For those wondering Marco the bison is Marshall's mascot name and he was named for Marshall College.
I didn't have a clue what was going on with Marshall or the basketball team in 1972 as I was born in Dec 1971.

Thank y’all both for sharing! Love hearing about the old heydays of Cajun hoops. I am too young but I’m told the Blackham Colosseum was one of the toughest places to play in the ‘70s - early ‘80s.

I was only in Blackham a few times when I lived there. I think it could be more intimidating for other schools if the place was updated with modern bleachers and a real good lighting and audio system. Although the building that opened in 1950 might not be worth it.
Louisiana playing in an 8-8.5K arena instead of a 14.5K CajunDome would probably look better.

I was 11 years old. We had been on a Greyhound bus all day on a band trip. Got home around 4 pm and first thing I did was ask the score. Good times, way before social media could tell you everything in real time. Bo Lamar was insane.
