I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'm still not convinced Fick would be Osu's first choice when and if Day leaves. I don't have any big theory, but just a gut feel. Fwiw, I would not want the pressure he would face at Osu for anything particularly when I already make millions annually. It's one of those jobs that is 365 days of scrutiny a year, and given his lineage it would be an awful big microscope for a guy and his family to be under who has thrived off the football craziness grid so to speak.

Although, his current salary would scare some teams off.

If Day were to go to the NFL it would be for a better franchise with the ability to get a franchise QB. Just because he coached Fields in college doesn't mean he wants to tie his career to him succeeding as an NFL QB

I think he'd view working with Fields as a positive. Fields was the steal of the draft, and he's looking like the cream of the last year's big QB crop despite being sabotaged from the beginning and being stuck with ****** coaching and a terrible OL. Working with the McCaskey family for Day, not so much. Dealing with one of the worst ownerships in the NFL is what would likely keep him in Columbus. Now, there are some crazy rumors floating around that Overlord Bezos is quietly looking into buying the Bears, and that might change a lot.

Mac Jones has certainly been the best rookie QB so far this year and it's not even close. Behind him it's probably Mills (who?!). Fields has been about on par with Lawrence maybe but I think Lawrence and Mills both have worse teams.

Fields hasn't really done anything yet to show he's the best QB of the class or that he's a franchise QB.

So that was holding up any discussion of him becoming HC at USC. So that has put things in limbo. I wish someone would just come out and say he is going or not going. This constant uncertainty if terrible. Going to USC is great financially but you could be fired in 5 years. Plus your kids would have to live in the land of fruits and nuts. I am not sure his kids could handle living there.

All kinds of assumptions happening here. There hasn't even been a definitive sources that's stated interest from Fickell. And, of course he would coach in the Final Four. Are you saying that he's likely to go to USC, but wants to coach in the semis if we make it? And what about Southern California wouldn't his kids be able to handle. Be specific now.

The Fickell's would be paying, I think, 13.3% state income tax on their W2 income.

The Fickell's would have to live in LA County, so it would be too far to send their kids to the only decent catholic HS which is Anaheim Servite.

The Fickells would be shopping for a home in the $2m to $2.5m range. And Luke will have a 30 to 60 minute drive to and from work everyday, assuming they don't provide a helicopter for his daily use. His wife's options are Palos Verdes, Rancho PV, Pasadena, Laurel Canyon and Beverly Hills. For a large Ohio family, Palos Verdes probably makes the most sense. The house will have to be large enough for a constant stream of Ohio family and friends.

I lived out there from 1982-1985 and then again from 1990-2015. (28 years total) I sold my SoCal houses and a SoCal 4 plex and moved home to Cincinnati when I retired. I traded the SoCal 4 plex (purchased in 1999) EVEN for a suburban Cincinnati 40 unit.

I now live in Symmes Township (Loveland schools). I'm getting ill just thinking about moving back to that mess...

I cannot see the Fickells moving their family to Los Angeles.

DL

I think to get a comparable home in So Cal would be way more than $2 - 2.5 million.
Their IH home cost $2.4 million in 2017 and was over 7,000 sf on 3 acres and a pool and large pool house. They have added a barn (indoor volleyball court). That said if he doubles his salary, they could easily afford $5+ million.

They would not even attempt to get a "comparable home" in the Los Angeles area. The Fickells are conservative Ohio folk. I would bet that they were apprehensive at $2.4m on the IH house, despite Luke's contract and future earning potential.

I had no idea that they live in Indian Hill. I thought that they lived in Loveland or Montgomery... Good luck getting Mrs. Fickell to leave Indian Hill for Los Angeles.

There's only once decent Catholic HS in all of Southern California? What about Loyala which is in LA proper and is the best Catholic HS in the state.....and has football or Marymount for girls. That took me all of two minutes to find as they were at the top of the list. There are many valid reasons that Fickell might pass on USC. Not being able to find quality Catholic schools (with football for the boys) is not one of them.

Ah. Internet sleuth. Remind me again how many decades you lived in Los Angeles County?

Los Angeles life is ruled by commute times. There is nothing more important in Los Angeles than living near your work/school/activities. Commute times dictate lifestyle.

Loyola HS is in a terrible neighborhood. Terrible.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about.

Exactly. Mac Jones is easily the best of this class so far. Fields has a lot to prove.

I don’t think Chicago could afford him, if they wanted him. I do think Day would be a better NFL option than Urban was. I always felt, Urban always benefited from being an amazing recruiter. Day seems like a better Xs and Os guy. I still wouldn’t make a guy with no NFL head coaching experience the Top paid NFL coach (or close to it). I posted the salaries on the other board, but I don’t recall them off hand. I think Day basically made as much as the two current Ohio NFL coaches combined. If I were him, I’d stay at Ohio State, and I hate Ohio State

I may be off on all of that.

Hes absolutely had the better season so far. But consider what he walked into with Belichek, getting plenty of first team snaps from the beginning of camp and a good OL. He also has a high floor, in that he probably won't flame out. OTOH, his ceiling is nowhere near what Fields has shown despite almost no first team snaps until well into the season, horrible coaches and arguably the worst line in the NFL. I guarantee you that if NFL GM's could turn back time right now, not a single one would take Jones over Fields.

At this point every franchise including Chicago would take Jones. He may not have the highest ceiling but he's proven a legitimate NFL QB. I don't think it's fair to make decisions on guys 2/3 into your rookie year but he's trending towards bust. I agree franchise matters but when these talented young QBs get ruined by bad franchises they rarely bounce back on team #2. Tannehill is one of the few that come to mind
