Do we need 6 running backs to win a couple more games?
Just fuk'n win the NC and be done with it, no excuses
I agree. I believe Latrele should be our feature back. Our ground game would be running like a Swiss watch right now. I understand all of the reasons it isn't.
Latrele is still dancing too much in the backfield. He should be exploding through the assigned hole. His size, power, and speed can move bodies out of the way.
We run a zone scheme so there is no assigned hole. We could have mike alstott in the backfield and it wouldnt matter when theres a defender in his face immediately

Point taken.
My point is that Latrele in particular should be blowing through the line and not dancing in the backfield while waiting for a hole to open, as that does nothing but allow defenders to gang up on him. That is his best opportunity to gain positive yardage.
Of course, with defenses stacking the box against us, I believe we could find better opportunities on quick pitches, end arounds, jet sweeps, etc. to exploit the corners. We have had success with this and it stretches the defense, giving us greater opportunities between the tackles.
But, with a killer passing game, our ground game is just to keep the defense honest until Wells' or Thornton's next race down the sideline.
Remember the days when we used to say, "We need to pass more?"

but it's the right time and the right conference for us to move on. Excited for the future!
so here we go....last playoff run. If we can solve our ground issues, i don't see anyone beating us. That's a big IF though. nothing to date has indicated we will solve that problem.
It's a more wide open field than the last few years. Lots of possibilities for big upsets.
Here are my picks:
First round
Incarnate Word over Stephen F Austin
UT Martin over Missouri State
Holy Cross over Sacred Heart
SD State over UC Davis
Southern Ill over South Dakota
Kennesaw over Davidson
Eastern Wash over No Iowa
SE Louisiana over FAMU
Second Round
Sam Houston over Incarnate Word (think this will be VERY close. I can see UIW winning)
Montana St over UT Martin
Villanova over Holy Cross
South Dakota St over Sacramento St
NDSU over Southern Illinois (will be a close game)
Kennesaw over ETSU
Eastern Washington over Montana
JMU over SE Louisiana (will be high scoring and game makes me a little nervous as matchups are not great in this one for us. We will need to score 45+ to feel great)
Quarterfinals
Sam Houston over Montana St
Villanova over South Dakota St
NDSU over Kennesaw (bad matchup for KSU. another cakewalk draw for NDSU)
JMU over Eastern Washington (was not super impressed with EWU when i saw them. Overrated QB that hasn't seen a defense like ours)
Semi Finals
Villanova over Sam Houston
JMU over NDSU
Final
JMU over Villanova
Dukes go out of FCS in style. No mention of CAA when collecting the trophy.
Tough bracket this year. I’ll give is a go.

Would have won last year if their starting QB wasn’t injured in the first quarter of the title game. Their 8-3 record this year is a bit misleading. Could easily be 10-1 which includes a dominant win against FBS Colorado State.

That’s what happens when you only watch one conference play all year.

That UT-Martin win surprised me for sure. Expected a better Missouri State team.

Mo Valley is waaaaay overrated. The Dakota States are the only two that should have made the field, IMO. Three MVFC teams lost yesterday and it would have been four had the not-so-great Salukis of S. Illiniois played anyone other than another Mo Valley dog.
Much more capable football teams had to stay home and miss the playoffs so that OVER half of the MVFC could make the field. That is just WRONG!
The FCS playoffs should be renamed the Missouri Valley Invitational.

Yep. MO St turned the ball over 6 times and only lost by 1.
https://www.ozarkssportszone.com/2021/11...ut-martin/
MO St keeps it to 1-2 turnovers they win going away.
MO St had a good chance to knock off MT ST. I doubt UTM does..
