You are right

It's hard to believe Florida never won a conference title until the 90s.

Not to us older folks that remember. They were kinda a Kentucky in football.

Yes that Dickey. The one that was getting his butt kissed by Lapides and acting superior before we beat them in 96.

i kept a photo of that play, could never believe a coach would do that

That's why we are still in CUSA.

Florida has the money to tolerate. We don't.

True, fla. fans there show up with a 500 record. We cant get 50k when we play for the conference championship at home

Florida has 56k undergraduate students. We have 17k.
Florida is the state school of a state with population pool of 21 million people to pull.
Memphis is a regional school with a metro population of 1.3 million.

Not exactly an apples to apples comparison.
Florida is also in the SEC and has a record of winning that goes back decades...we don't.

That was before integration. I lived in Florida in the 60's and would go to Gainesville to see Larry Libertore at QB and the Gators when Ray Graves was the head coach. Back then, Florida A&M has the great football teams in Florida (Bullet Bob Hayes went to FAMU). But, once intergration came and Florida recruited those same black players that used to go to FAMU, a big change took place. Florida got much better and FAMU dropped into obscurity.

Maybe in that part of Fla. Nobody gave a **** about famu outside of Fla. Fla sucked. Fsu was the school dumb kids went to in bama, ga, and al that had restarted football and was a girls school. They were the joke at doak. Miami was and is the rich kid school that sucked and then added a mercenary thug team ( a model I've often wondered why Tulane didn't follow) Tampa ( not USF) Tampa was actually a thing too but deemphasized football

Meanwhile Memphis hasnt done shite other than bump along being awful with flashes of mediocrity while being the city of memphis bitche guided by local SEC alums that allowed the school have basketball. That's changed. In the last 10 years but it may be too late

Famu has cool unis but past that, nah ,no one gave a shite

Yeah that's the type of character that guided vol football. Easy to hate those punks. I'm glad they've sucked for 20 years. It's what they deserved

Florida 1996, 2006, 2008

Word down here is that Mullen hates recruiting and would rather be a pro coach (where he doesn't have to do that). Probably not the guy we'd want here.

RE: Dan Mullen out At Florida
I'm concerned about Silverfield.
But this is another example of why we DON'T want to be looking for a coach this year.
USC, LSU, Florida, TCU, Va Tech, Washington.
All of those get dibbs over us.
Then there's the domino effect of who they hire - because most of them will be hiring current HCs at other programs.
Unless it's ugly vs Tulane, best we stand pat this offseason.
(And we will because we don't have the money to do otherwise.)

Certainly, we don’t tack on a year to his contract, though… right?

Allyn McKeen was the coach of that team. He parlayed that season into the head coach job at MS State and later inducted into the college football hof.

Curlin's last year was 1936 and his record was 43-60-14.

In the last 45 years we have had 10 coaches and only 3 of them have overall winning records. One of them is the current coach.

I’m surprised they don’t go bigger than Napier. Florida has been successful with big time, high profile coaches ie Spurrier & Meyer… & not so much with guys smaller than the program. The perfect hire for Florida is Lane Kiffen.

OK, that's a valid point that I hadn't thought about.

While I hate to be on a short leash with RS, it's just the timing that makes me anxious. Normally I'd say let it play out another recruiting class and season, but the Big 12 churn had me thinking we HAVE to send a message that we won't tolerate mediocrity. This is just the wrong season to have a slide.

But with those other schools all looking for coaches, and the carrousel that follows as they make their hires from other schools, we'd be in a pretty bad spot.
