What has happened to Texas?
Damn six straight losses. Look like they recruited a bunch of softies interested in black lives matter more then playing football.

Yep. And I don't think Sark is the right guy to fix their problems.

Trying to pin the horns demise on the players tells me you don't follow Texas football very closely. This one is about culture of the entire athletic department starting with the big-time money boosters in Austin and filtering all the way down to the players. Removing Herman to replace him with Sark was a disaster in the making and the results are showing.

Couldn’t be happier for the entitled bunch in Austin.

Exactly. The big money speaks way too loudly in Austin, and has for years.

There are so many of the big schools, tu probably being the most so, that believe that the almighty has graced them with the national championship in everything, just because. They just don't understand that Alabama has been awarded that already.

Biggest difference I can tell between the Alabama and TexasU programs (and I'm close enough to both to have some understanding) is that the big money donors try to micromanage the program in Austin but tend to stay out of the way in Tuscaloosa.
Bryant, Stallings, and Saban all had/have enough arrogance to keep them at bay. That hasn't worked in Austin.
When Bryant first came to Alabama from aTm, a bunch of the heavy hitters (Fred Sington, Jimmy Hinton, basically the folks who bought out the aTm contract) had a welcome breakfast in Birmingham. They each got up, presented a check, and gave a short spiel on what each one of them wanted to see from the program. Finally, Bryant took the podium and said, "Gentlemen, thank you for your generosity. I can assure you that these funds are badly needed and we will use them wisely. But let me make one thing clear. I don't give a f-ck what any of you think we need to do." That set the tone, and none of them ever crossed the line. I am not aware that anything like that has ever occurred in Austin.

Yes so true. That is what I meant. I remember Herman marching hand in hand with his players supporting BLM. Saban and his team did not get involved in this crap.

Absolutely not true. Saban and Alabama most definitely did a public show of support for BLM last Summer.

Quote: Alabama coach Nick Saban led a march Monday afternoon of hundreds of the university’s athletes, coaches and staff that was organized to protest racial injustice in the country.
Saban was at the front of a large crowd of players who walked from the Mal Moore athletic facility to Foster Auditorium’s schoolhouse door.
Senior running back Najee Harris walked next to Saban wearing a T-shirt reading, “Defend Black Lives; racial solidarity against this corrupt system.” Other players walked behind Saban holding a banner reading, “Black Lives Matter.” The march was also advertised on social media over the weekend by players with the hashtag #BLM.

Quote: This is what helped me grow in my role as a leader, to listen to the players, to learn from the players and give them opportunities to do things that could impact social change today," Saban said. "Today I'm like a proud parent.
"I'm proud of our messengers over here and I'm very proud of the message."

+1. My list is getting longer and longer as well. Weird to see threads with so many blank spots now.

Recruiting is the name of the game now. And any coach who plans to be able to recruit African-American athletes had better be out in front leading the BLM charge. I find that incredibly sad, but unfortunately true.
BLM is making things worse, not better, for African-Americans and all people of color.

Agree
And to the Quad this goes!
Would be an interesting discussion about what actually has happened to UT, but alas...
I kinda assumed that the assistance coach calling his players a bunch of mother******s and telling them to enter the transfer portal might have had an effect.

RE: What has happened to Texas?
Mensa was once described to me as "Bailiff with a hard edge" by a former coaching opponent of theirs in the Southland Conference. I've always had very decidedly mixed opinions about him, and nothing has happened to push me strongly in either way.
If Rice decided to fire Bloom and was able to hire Mensa to replace him, I would probably support that move, but I don't really have strong feelings either way.
Sark, on the other hand, strikes me as a kind of offensive technician, the guy who can be an excellent OC but is not head coach material.

The Washington job was a total reclamation project. Most people don't remember that the Huskies were 12-47 (including 0-12 in 2008) in the 5 seasons before Sarkisian took over in 2009.
In his 5 years there, Washington was 35-29, with 4 bowls. He set the stage for Chris Petersen's success there.
I think that the Texas job may be a bit of a rebuild (not like Washington, of course), and that success may be delayed until 2023.
