It's the Area Code for San Antonio. Apparently they're "representing" the 210. They're the only FBS team in that Area Code, so yeah, whatever.

Again they have to go and copy a UTEP (sort of) thing where Aaron Jones (ex UTEP player) makes the 915 area code after every Packers TD.
What a bunch of copycats. Sheesh.

May be missing the sarcasm. But, To be fair plenty of teams do this. We did the 601 a couple years ago.
If anything everyone is copying Ludacris.

RE: Why is 210 on UTSA helmets?
I’ll explain more about it later when I get home, since we have some on here who seem to be quick to judge. Long story short though is that it represents part Coach Traylor’s 210 Triangle of Toughness culture that he has put in since the first day he started coaching us. Has to do with making sure we can recruit the best of San Antonio’s local kids first. But there’s more to it than that.

It’s their basketball team’s Kenpom ranking.

UTSA leaving the 726 area code out to dry. San Antonio had to start issuing them 4-5 years ago because the 210 area codes are exhausted. It's not a 1 area code town anymore.

Great theme, but their helmets are still nothing to write home about.

We're still pretty much a 1 area code STATE, I think they recently added one for some stuff.
304 Are we the only single area code with 2 FBS teams? Guessing Raleigh/Durham has 3-4 teams but don't know if the area codes change in that area.

RDU area should be all 919 ... I don't think another one hits till you get to Winston Salem. Greenville rep's the 252.

Oh wow… ok… didn’t see that one coming. A telephone area code on a helmet. That’s a new one. West Virginia used to only have one area code. 304. Then with the rise in cell phones another was added but it’s random and not a location. Maybe if WVU & Marshall ever play football again they can battle for the rights to 304.

To add on to what I was saying for some of you who apparently haven't followed us very closely this year, another thing Coach Traylor did that goes back to the 210 Triangle of Toughness football culture he instilled in our program is that our players vote for who gets to wear the single-digit jerseys. The three numbers held in highest regard are the 2, 1, and 0 jerseys, with 0 being the absolute toughest to earn. The players who earn these jerseys are players that best exemplify the three pillars represented by Coach Traylor's 210 Triangle of Toughness.
Every year in training camp there's a clean slate, so it starts all over again. Someone who may have worn the 0 jersey the previous year may not be voted by his peers to wear it again the following year if they feel he didn't earn it, or if someone new stepped up to earn it away from him.
Coach Traylor has publicly said he didn't come up with the idea himself, as he got the idea from his coaching buddy, Matt Rhule who used something very similar. Btw, only one player who was voted for earning a single-digit jersey chose not to wear it this year, and that's senior Inside Linebacker Trevor Harmanson. He is wearing a 15 jersey in honor of a close friend of his that he played football with in high school, who I believe passed away. I don't recall the exact details, but heard about it once in an interview.

Fantastic idea. The culture Traylor has built there so quickly is impressive. Hope you guys can hang on to him for a long time. A great way to bring the city and the team together (esp since there is no other competition with in city limits for football).
Edit: the #2 Jersey means a lot at UTEP because of the inspirational story behind Luke Lautenberg.
