JMU Men's Basketball 21-22 Playoff Discussions
It's too early to talk about this, but in reality every game is so important towards this seasons goal with the CAAT as not an option. This is a solid team, arguably a top 100 team as it stands today 11-20-21.

Post Season options may include:

CIT
CBI
NIT
NCAA

Although I'm not sure if there will be a CIT/CBI this year, but I think there will.

30 Division 1 games for the Dukes this year.

I think the challenging/odds against/but possible goal for this team would be the NIT.

I think NCAA would likely require at least 26 wins, and more likely 27 wins. I think we have a long way to go before we can have those serious discussions. How tough our schedule ends up being will also come into play. We need hope GMU, Hofstra, CofC, and some of the teams we play next week Naples team have great seasons to boost or OOC rating. Also we need to beat UVA and hope they finish their season strong.

NIT - sill very early, and our odds are still very against at this point, but at this point it is still an attainable goal.

If we don't get selected for the Dance or NIT, I think it will be important for us us to participate in the CIT or CBI for experience building into next year.

You're right, it is too early to talk about this. That is all

From an outsider perspective I do not see a team left on your schedule you will not be favored. Va is trash this season. If you do not get a bid to the NCAA tourney I will be surprised.

Not sure if that was tongue and cheek, but that is nowhere true at this point. But the longer we can continue to win, the more that will be on the table in the spring.

At this point I would throw JMU, Hofstra, & CofC in a similar bucket. And I would not be shocked by the end of the season if NU was playing as well as those three listed schools.

Who left on your schedule would you not be favored? Maybe Kent St but that would be toss up on a neutral site. Va down this year and you get them at home.

NCAA bid would be a modern day miracle. The schedule is too soft for an at-large bid barring JMU finishing 29-2. It is early and things will change, but right now only UVA is in the top 100. We’ll see if any of these mid-majors in the Naples Invitational have strong years. Currently the other 7 teams look average at best.

NIT seems like a good goal. Win the CAA regular season and state a case for inclusion. Would love to see the Dukes have a chance to play more P7 teams in the NIT, perhaps some at home.

I think NIT is very much in play if we post the best CAA record (and we should imo).

NCAA is a bit of a dream, but not impossible. Would need to win nearly every game I think though, which is a big task.

RPI still loves us, its a shame that's not the benchmark now.

CAA schedule works against us, but our OOC could be decent. GMU was a great quality win. UVA win will be big, even if they just land middle of the ACC.

Wright St and Missouri St are in the top 100. An optimal tournament win would be to win against Kent St, Wright St, and Missouri St.

Gotta figure 3 games in 3 days in the Naples Tournament will effect us less than other teams. We are deep, and not dependent on slow moving bigs.

I buy Missouri State if they can up their record. Wright State - No. they are 0-2 with a 44 point loss to Purdue. Not good. Don’t care which metrics people look at for them.

Murray State could work their way up.
It is still early and these neutral court games will go a long way to setting the pecking order for mid major conferences the rest of the year. The rest of the CAA is not helping JMU’s strength of schedule for later this year.
Zero impressive wins by CAA teams so far against the P7. 0-10 this season with only a handful a P7 games left. 01-lauramac2 Joey D is leading the league into unprecedented territory in a bad way.

I believe Hofstra and CofC may be games that could help us. Also Drexel is currently at the top of the RPI…can’t imagine that lasts though.

The league is 5-1 against the A10 so far this year. Hofstra plays UR on Monday evening. The wins so far are over St. Joes, LaSalle, GMU and Duquesne twice. Beating A10 schools should help the leagues power ranking but so far, the wins have come against teams likely in the bottom of the A10 with the exception being our win against GMU.

What one computer thinks on our NCAA odds: https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basket...acketology

If we win 25+ it starts to look good.

Except we can't win the auto bid, so that basically says we have a 0% chance, but of course if we've got 25 to 30 wins I think there's a possibility.
