College basketball will never be the same without Dick Vitale. It was a shame that he developed cancer after all the money he raised fighting cancer.

Also, it's great to have a UCLA game not called by Bill Walton! 02-13-banana

Cannot stand Dickie V. Only Howard Cosell was more obnoxious. Dickie hogs the limelight. I really loathe him.

To each his own. I actually love the guy. He lives in my hometown in Sarasota. I started liking the guy back in the late, late 90s' when he played Jim Boeheim one on one in an outdoor basketball event to raise money for cancer in downtown Rochester.
Jimmy B took him to school that day and took his lunch money. He was a good sport.

Vitale is in-our-face, but I love his enthusiasm for college basketball. He exudes it, and it has always been infectious.

And with the changes in the game, IMO college hoops needs him. Back in the 1980s, when he emerged as a big personality, that wasn't really needed, because the game was so organically compelling that it sold itself.

Not today though, so his unabashed cheerleading is a nostalgic reminder to those of us who grew up with him that it can still be a great game.

yeah, and the guy has done so much for cancer research raising so much money.

I'd love for CBS to give him a chance to call at least a few minutes of the final 4- kind of like what ABC did for Craig Sager back a few years ago in the NBA finals.

I bet CBS would like to V to call some Final-4 action, but ESPN would have something to say about that, LOL.

Also, IIRC, I don't think Vitale has ever called an NCAA tournament game for a USA broadcast. I think he has done some with ESPN International, which has broadcast rights for markets outside the USA, but never for a USA telecast of any big dance game.
