RE: Rice Women at NCAA Cross Country Championships
Maybe Rice can recruit some highly ranked cross country runners to help out with a team score and Grace next year.

In the men's race, BYU's Conner Mantz sprinted to a 5.6-second win over Wesley Kiptoo (Iowa State).

Northern Arizona won the team competition 92-137 over Iowa State.

Stanford freshman Charles Hicks finished 4th. The Cardinal was 5th in the team standings. Notre Dame placed 9th, Harvard 12th, Texas 14th, Georgetown 22nd & Princeton 23rd.

I could tell as early as 2K that Grace w as struggling. By 4K, she was clearly hurting. And, yes, she's disappointed.

Why not? You have the team race, but you also have an individual race so all of the unattached runners are obviously hoping for that trophy, or all-American status. It's no different from numerous Olympic events where team titles and medals are given out, but you also have individual medals awarded.

Go Grace!

It was an honest question. I didn't know there are separate individual medals.

It was an honest question. I didn't know there are separate individual medals.

Rice's preview (https://riceowls.com/news/2021/11/17/wom...ships.aspx) included this info on the race's awards:

Quote:• The top four teams in the standings make the NCAA podium and receive team trophies.

• The top 15 finishers are recognized by the NCAA with individual trophies.

• The top 40 finishers are recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Americans, and receive medals for their efforts.

So with her 45th-place finish, Grace missed out on All-American. :-(

More congratulations to Grace Forbes for being named as C-USA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year!

I highly recommend going to watch her run, either indoors at UH, or at one of our home outdoor meets.
