COVID-19 Football News
Central Michigan will now be playing in a different bowl game in a different state on December 31st. They will now play Washington State in the Sun Bowl. Central’s opponent, Boise State didn’t have enough eligible players due to Covid-19. Washington State lost their opponent, Miami, FL due to Covid-19 also.

Central gets a better bowl with better TV (CBS) instead of Barstool. Although the Sun Bowl has a higher payout, Central will not get the higher amount. Article in the Detroit News did not state the amount they will get.

The article says 3 bowls have been canceled so far.

Hope this isn’t going to happen in basketball but I guess we should plan on it. Eastern Michigan already has 2 canceled games. Wonder if basketball tournaments are going play.

this is the biggest wave of the epidemic. so, it will have the greatest impact short term at least. we have better tools to fight the illness; partial immunity through vaccines and previous infections, medications and techniques developed through crisis conditions, etc... so there may not be a huge surge in deaths. but there will be a lot of sickness over the next month and the vaccines without a booster help your body fight it off, but don't stop people from catching the infection very well. even with a booster you can still get a nasty flu and infect many others. still too early to say if it will burn out by March.

Good analysis. I hope teams and fans get thru this across the country and world. Maybe, just maybe, this variant will take few lives and get on the track of herd immunity or at least dumb down this stupid thing so we can live our lives like it was 2019 again.

It would also take some Gaul of the committee or whoever ultimately decides this thing to cancel a CFB NY6 game or playoff like they have the "unimportant games." But it has mostly been the Universities deciding their fate combined with portal and injured position groups. I don't want anyone affected but dang wouldn't it be something if those high profile games got rescheduled and the 35 "meaningless" ones didn't. The totem pole is tall...

Believe that goes into the MAC bowl pot. Their expenses get paid, but everyone gets an even share.

I would much rather them go to this bowl since NIU and Toledo dont know how to win bowl games.

CMU is 3-9 in Bowls. 0-5 since 2014.

Toledo had no business losing in the Bahamas... But You can lay a bulk of the blame on the staff in regards to game preparation/lack of motivation on the team ...03-banghead
NIU just was not given the opportunity to win at the end... If Central knocks off WSU, the MAC realistically could be 5-3 in this bowl season ...

I get the sense that you are correct in terms of Covid. In the Lima area where I reside the genie has been let out of bottle in terms of illness, all of the things we avoided last year have been attempting to make up for lost time. I've read recently that Avian flu is getting a bit of a foothold in parts of the country.
The other various and sundry illnesses won't effect the bowl games, but it might make the remainder of basketball season interesting being thrown in the mix with the Rona.

I have just recovered from covid. I was sick for two weeks. Truthfully I’ve felt worse with the flu. But trust me it was no picnic and I hope I never go through that again. Today starts third week when I knew I was sick. Pretty sure I came in contact with it three days before at a birthday party. My granddaughter tested positive two days after we were together, I’m guessing I got it from her. No I’m not vaccinated. Unfortunately I’m one of those that can’t do vaccines. Can’t do flu shots either.

I'm sorry to hear that you contracted it but I'm grateful that yours wasn't a severe case. If what has been said in the past about viral load is true perhaps you were fortunate that it was your granddaughter whom you caught it from, although it's too bad that your granddaughter had it. Heal up.
