UC vs Presbyterian Blue Hose game thread
Yes - UC plays again tonight. On ESPN +.

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati men's basketball team is set for a 48-hour turnaround from last night's win when it hosts Presbyterian at 7 p.m. Thursday.

ESPN Plus | 700 WLW | Tickets

THE RUNDOWN
The Bearcats found their shooting touch against Alabama A&M (won 89-66) on Tuesday night, going 11-for-28 from deep after entering the night 11-for-43 the first two games. David DeJulius' 21 points in just 21 minutes led the way, his second 20-point UC performance. Forty-six percent of UC's points this season have come from its bench as well, highlighted by Mike Saunders Jr.'s 14 against AAMU. It was the sophomore's third double-figure scoring game, all since Feb. 28 (Memphis and SMU the other opponents).

UC added four more blocks, including two by Mason Madsen who had four in his career prior. The Bearcats also posted 40-plus rebounds for the third-straight game, their first-such occurrence since the start of 2017-18. UC has led at the half each contest as well, with the 52 points over the Tuesday's final period marking a season-high, shooting 55 percent and going 13-for-14 at the foul line (93 percent) in that frame.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Should Cincinnati win Thursday, Wes Miller would become the first UC coach to win his first four at the school since Tay Baker in 1965-66, which resulted in a Missouri Valley Conference title. One other notable element is the team committing just 28 turnovers so far, the fewest for a three-game stretch since the end of the 2018-19 season (25).

RE: UC vs Presbyterian Blue Hose game thread
What is a "Blue Hose"

The nickname “Blue Hose” began in the early 1900's, when sportswriters referred to the Presbyterian College athletic teams as the “Blue Stockings” because of the blue socks they wore. Writers used the terms “stockings” and “hose” interchangeably over the years.

They often shortened “stockings” to “hose” in newspaper headlines.

Coincidentally enough, former college PR guy Ben Hay Hammet's 1982 centennial history of PC noted that blue-stocking Presbyterians also referred to “Presbyterians with strong puritan leanings.”

“At any rate,” Hammet wrote, “the sports nickname was shortened to 'Blue Hose' in 1954- presumably under the assumption that it sounded somewhat fiercer to carry onto the field of athletic battle.”

The student body adopted the nickname as the official school nickname in the 1950's.

“Blue Hose” has survived all these years, taking on even more meaning. Today the name signifies fierce Scottish warriors, further adding to Hammet's take on the term. This interpretation also reflects the college's Scottish heritage.

The last time we played Presbyterian was 2011, and we lost. That was also the year of the brawl with Xavier, and a Sweet Sixteen run.

Blue Hoes?

Hmmm... Weren't those the prostitutes that got stiffed by Rick Pitino at Louisville?

Or is that the nickname for Xavier girls?

Same day UC’s BCS bowl hopes died at Rutgers. Literally the worst day as Bearcat until that Nevada game.

It was such a low point for UC but thing did get better. Football went on to win their last two conference games to get a three split for the league title and made it three in a row with a Liberty Bowl victory. Basketball went on to play for Big East championship and made the Sweet 16.

It’s one of the few losing days for UC I always remember because the end result for the season turned out ok, but man that was one rough day to be a fan.

"Stiffed" being a relative term.

A can't miss game would be if the Blue Hoes take on the Shockers. A lot of "penetrating offense" going on in that game.

In a tournament sponsored by Dick's Sporting Goods, of course...

Can someone tell Kevin Johnson that the first basket of the game is never a “dagger?”

This team is so streaky. They look awful for 10 minutes then look unbeatable for 5 min.

This team reminds me of Mick’s teams. Not his last few years but post SK period before that.
