Yes, aggressive defense and hustle won for us last night. This looked like the style of play that Siddle wants and can produce wins. Offense looked better driven by points after turnovers, but our low shooting percentage kept Coastal in the game. Have to say that I feel much more hopeful about this season after watching this one!

I feel like our shot selection got much better as the game wore on and we stopped settling for threes. that was a big reason IMO we were able to maintain the lead when they cut into it a few times.

Also, watching that video it's nice to see a good crowd back at Trask too. The energy in the stands and on the court seemed to match, which is a great sign going forward.

It was my first game at Trask since 2019 and it was awesome. Student section was chirping their players (respectively). In particular a guy named Vince Cole, who we recruited last spring. So I assume a student who keeps up with recruiting organized that. As we know, those type of things out of the student section can go a long way in Trask.
Last night felt like our REAL home opener. Great atmosphere, fun game, excellent performance. We may not have the horses to be a contender in the CAA this year, but if we bring that level of defense as often as possible, we'll definitely beat expectations like this scheme is always capable of doing.
It's also high time we stop complaining about the # of three-pointers taken. This is who we're going to be as long as Coach Siddle and/or the Keatts tree is running things at UNCW. And at least nearly all of the 3's taken last night were open looks. We simply don't have the kind of perimeter shooting abilities we had when Flemmings and Ingram were here (Captain Obvious statement there). But living by the 3 and dying by the 3 is what we're going to do, for better or worse, so might as well get used to it.
And yes, White is my favorite player on this team. And dare I say it: I think he's already our best player. Perhaps an unpopular take, and perhaps we need one of our more veteran guys to be our best player...but there you go. And he's a great kid to boot; he's very easy to root for. An excellent pickup by Coach Siddle and I hope his stay in the starting lineup will be permanent.

We are going to press and shoot the three in our system. But I don't think anyone is complaining about shooting threes, just taking them quickly and out of the offensive rhythm. It was obvious that we hit the three when our guys were shooting off the pass instead of off the dribble. The difference was notable.

Taking "good threes" is the key. When you have numbers on a break 95% of the time a 3 is not a good shot unless you have Steph Curry on the team which we don't. But, like i said before i feel like some of the settling we did in the first half stopped in the second and was a big reason we maintained the lead. Taking chippies on breaks when we have them Vs threes will also help to bring our terrible shooting % Thus far up. A lot of positives to take from last night, and i absolutely agree, White may not be the best shooter, best dunker, but what he brings to the team right now is undeniable.

Two of the things Siddle emphasized in practice for the CCU game. One, penetrating in the paint and kicking it back out instead of trying to go up against 3-4 defenders. And two, not taking contested 3s. Siddle does not think we are taking too many 3s. But he did say we were taking too many contested 3s.
