Bullcrap. 1:07 to go 77 yards with no time outs. UTSA won that game. UAB was hanging on for dear life. They didn’t hand them anything.
UAB wins that game if their coach has the nuts to move the ball 2 inches. They kicked it away and put the game in the hands of UTSA.

Hats off to UAB. No one has ran on us all season. Clark is still one of the best. I didn't agree with his call but perhaps he trusted his defense to hold UTSA with only a minute and half and no TOs.

I doubt there’s a coach in our conference that goes for it on 4th down on the road in that situation and hand the ball over on the wrong side of the 50. I know how easy it is to be a message board coach and make that call but Clark is no newbie. He put it in his Dee’s hands and UTSA made many special plays on that drive including the tipped game winner.

Strange response. Has nothing to do with App. But I appreciate your hatred all the way from San Antonio.
What would you want your coach to do in that situation? Punt to a 10-0 team and give them 1:00 to go 80 yards? Or gain and inch and win the ball game?

...yep, but I'll say we played pretty straight up with them throughout - minimal 'letdowns', except for the goofy last possession we bailed out on potentially icing the game - but this was UAB's best game this season, save for the obligatory 100+ in penalties...

...I generally concur, but... I think the team was fully expecting to go for it, and when we DIDN'T, it sucked the life out of them... not saying that UTSA wouldn't have driven it down our throats regardless on their winning drive, but I just saw the team kinda 'deflate' on the sidelines when we chose to punt... sometimes it's a 'checkers or wreckers' situation, and I think that was one of those times given the situation...

Correct. Because UTSA has a dynamic offense. So you either TAKE the win, on the road, where 2 inches means you get the W, or you punt it to them and net +30 extra yards. It took UTSA about 15 seconds to get back to the exact spot UAB punted from. Sometimes you gotta go for the kill, Clark decided to play dead.

So it's come down to this. UTSA, Western or Marshall.
If UTSA can close out business and finish ranked they will be the highest-ranked CUSA 3.0 team, and the third to complete a season ranked since our 2013 relaunch.
Now we look to the Western and Marshall game next week in Huntington!

Clark routinely plays scared and not to lose, rather than to win. It bit us against a really good team. He also refuses ti address our incredibly awful penalty numbers.
Congrats UTSA! You have a really good team. I think UAB should’ve won, but you guys did what you had to do when given the chance by our coach.

Wilders gone so…..yeah, another 15 yards and you give it a good look but that would have been too short of a field.

Kind of a backhanded congrats. Don't make excuses even if they are valid one. Just say congrats and let it be.

Just so easy to couch-coach. Also real easy to criticize a guy who has made UAB Western Division champs 3 years running. And it took a ranked, undefeated team playing at home to end that streak. But you guys go ahead and talk about how everything would’ve been different if you were making the decisions.

The coaching decision was awful.
Our staff is holding us back at this point.
UTSA is really freaking good. Uab played really well tonight (outside of the penalties which are also on the staff) and y’all beat us straight up.

This was an amazing game to watch. Congratulations to both teams.
I'm hoping that WKU wins the title. But UTSA sure looks like a team of destiny.

It’s very easy to. It was clearly a better decision to go for it. By a wide margin. It had a huge success rate and a way higher win outcome percentage.

UAB should erect a freaking statue to Bill Clark. Dude hung around a defunct program for several years when he clearly had better offers to lead your school to several division titles and conference titles. Clark IS UAB football at this point.

...I agree... but my beef is when we are 'trying' to run out the clock is to call some better stuff on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd downs... and the triple digit average in penalties each game are a legitimate issue (although those holding calls were the direct result of the UTSA D-line, which is second only to UGA that we've faced this year)
But I think UAB has come QUITE a ways in the last decade (the 'silent years' notwithstanding) for us to be bellyaching about coming up one play short of winning on the road against an undefeated team that will most likely stay that way and SHOULD be at LEAST in the Top Ten in the final polls... ...heck, prior to Clark, we were hardly ever BOWL eligible, usually painfully close (5-7, even 6-6, but always passed over)... and the "Post-Watson / Pre-Clark" years were a COMPLETE disaster...
...all that to say, we STILL should have gone for it there...
...now, y'all BIRDS go and run the rest of the table!
