Especially if you get any rain during those 3 days.

I feel like if that were the case they would have already told the AHSAA to pound sand. They have to feel like they're getting something out of it or they wouldn't do it

That was Thompson’s crowd. I was in there. We were loud. Band was great. Football game was fun.

Protective should be the permanent home of the high school championships...

There was a great little hit piece on NBC Channel 13 news this morning comparing yesterday's Super 7 attendance to that of the UAB-UTEP game. I thought that was a nice touch by our bush league local media.

2021 SUPER 7 SETS NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD

https://www.ahsaa.com/Media/AHSAANOW/New...nce-record

The 2021 Super 7 State Football Championships set a new attendance record with total attendance 62,544 over the three-day event at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
The previous record was 61,048 when the championships were held at Auburn University and were then called the “Super 6”.
Friday’s attendance was 28,182 for the Class 2A finals between Clarke County and Cleveland; the Class 4A finals featuring Vigor and Oneonta; and the 6A championship game featuring Jefferson County rivals Clay-Chalkville and Hueytown.
“This was great news for our schools,” said AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs. “It is also a testament to the strong support the cities and communities across our state have for our member school education-based athletics programs.
“On behalf of our member schools and Central Board of Control, we thank everyone for that support including our corporate partners, the City of Birmingham, Protective Stadium and all who volunteered their time to make this week’s games so special for our member schools.”

The daily attendance breakdown for the week:

WEDNESDAY: 16,341
THURSDAY: 18,021
FRIDAY: 28,182

TOTAL 62,544

Turned out to be a great time to showcase Protective, weather was perfect, local teams playing. Hope that helps squelch any beliefs that it’s downtown, therefore inherently unsafe, and will help bring more fans to UAB games over the next couple season.

NBC13 is horrible when it comes to UAB coverage. Even when UAB wins they'll show a game where UAB is throwing an interception or fumbling against a team we wasn't even playing.

Wait until the Birmingham Bowl when that attendance will be larger than any UAB game this season.

I agree. I think getting more people familiar/comfortable with the stadium and logistics of the location will help.

Interesting because when I mentioned back in October the description of where the stadium is located I was told don't go there and blah blah blah. But if I wasn't right then why we there be any concern about safety and the location of Protective?

But I honestly don't believe the location is an issue, it's the product that is on display at Protective that is affecting attendance.

Everyone with a child in Central Alabama is familiar with the area because they have all gone to see Disney on Ice or the circus. It's next to the BJCC, not Birmingport
