I would think he’s coming back. I can’t see him getting drafted this year.

In the NFL, really good running backs are a dime a dozen.

Seeing the development of DQ has, IMO, been the highlight of this season.
The overall play of the defense is second.

I really enjoyed seeing Shaw and Constant get some playing time.

RE: The Official Toledo - Akron Football Game Thread
Not sure if anyone else at the game noticed, but in the 4th quarter Lavel Dumont REFUSED to go in the game.

He was standing at the very end of the sideline with one of the jackets over his shoulder pads. Another player came over trying to get him to come to the OL huddle on the sideline while the D was on the field; he refused. A minute or 2 later, a coach told Bryce Harris to get Lavel to get ready for the next offensive series, and Bryce had to go search for him while people were yelling his name; he again refused. Then, a coach (assistant/GA for the OL) went over to Lavel and tried to get him to put on the coaching headset to talk to the coaches in the booth; he refused again. He at least then moved from the very end/corner of the sideline. Then Candle came up and talked to him and he still didn't go in. This whole time, I could see him shaking his head no every time someone came up to talk to him.

I know he just got the Musial award recently, but if we have a player who straight up refuses to go in the game, tell him to go to the locker room.

I hope he's ok, mentally, emotionally, physically.

Q4 of a blowout game? I'd hear his reasons before judging or I simply wouldn't judge. This has been a big issue in College Football. No one should be put in that game that isn't ready, whatever his reasons. Coach can decide whether to continue scholarship but not force someone into the game.

From your description it sounds like coaches were encouraging him to go into game but that there were no immediate repercussions for not going in That is as it should be. I wouldn't embarrass a kid by sending them to locker. Only send to locker for on the field problem or if they're causing a disturbance.

OL should have dominated the Zips from start to finish.
Finn and Kobacks' talents allowed them to avoid a lot of TFL/Sacks,etc. Didn't really see the OL knock the Zips off the FB or blow open a hole you could drive a bus thru.

I recall more than a few plays when Finn had all-day in the pocket. Whether that was line improvement of problems in Akron, who's to know but in-game I mentioned it so I think my recollection is correct.

I sit in row K at south 40 yard line behind the O line bench and Dumont was not involved mentally most of game…. Drifting around when OL was huddled. We commented on it. Obviously not happy with PT……. hey - it’s a universal problem. Spencer Rattler’s not happy either. Plus several thousand other DI players. Football is the bitterest of pills- when it’s not going your way it may be over and when it’s over it’s really over. Of course there’s always the transfer portal

Go Rockets!!!

Speaking of the Transfer Portal, I noticed Riley Keller in there today.

That player from Central, running back Norrils, seems potentially as a future star with Akron, if he doesn't transfer out. How did UT miss out on him ?

I agree. He's been a good player for us, but he runs too upright and not behind his pads. If he leaves this year he doesn't get drafted. Maybe next year in the late rounds. I just don't see him as a solid NFL contributor.

I totally disagree with your opinion, with one exception. He should stick for another year to improve his upper body strength. 2023 draft, I think he is a solid 5th round draft pick. What round was Kareen drafted ?

1) Every good player from Toledo who doesn't go to UT doesn't mean UT "missed out" on them. Maybe they didn't fit the scheme UT wanted. Maybe they wanted to go somewhere new and 'get out of Toledo'. Maybe they had character issues so UT stayed away. Maybe what they wanted to major in wasn't offered at UT. Who knows. (none of those 'what ifs' are directed at Jonzell).

2) Going by his twitter, the only offers he mentioned were Eastern Illinois, Akron, Tiffin, Lake Erie, Northwood, Air Force, Valpo, and Youngstown St. So UT isn't the only school to miss on him.

Yeah, I don't think he would get drafted. The draft can get really small, once they start calling names.

Well considering his brother, Cheatham's All-MAC career here, I'm not sure how that by itself didn't get UT's attention to offer him. Jonzell would fit in real nicely next year if in fact BK decides to declare early. IMO I don't think BK gets drafted this year so seems silly to not return for a senior season.

OL not really doing that good of job. Several plays nobody put a hand on that Akron DT on the left side.
OL has been an ongoing problem. Having a mobile
QB and a great RB help.
