This raises a bunch of questions. Did FIU know that Davis wanted to promote his camps on the postgame backdrop? Did he think he had gotten permission? Was he allowed to promote the camps in other avenues? Was he denied permission but said screw it, I'm doing it anyway? Who produced the Davis backdrop? Who carried it in? Was the Baptist Health one taken down or did Davis sneak in his first? Did nobody from FIU ever see the Davis backdrop? Was there any disciplinary action for trying to circumvent the Baptist Health backdrop and/or ignoring athletic department demands that he not use it? Why did they let him get three questions in?

All very good questions Cyniclone, I hope FIU administrators give some answers soon. I suspect the relationship has been going bad for some time. A local reporter interviewed Butch a few weeks ago where he said he has not seen or spoken to the AD in almost a year.

Oh Butch has totally failed, but I do think there is a kernel of truth to what he is saying. However, with that being said, he is part of that problem.

I agree Jules, Pete and the Pres have responsibility for their share of this cluster....

And I agree, there may be a few grains of truth to Butch's story but again $14M budget and you can't afford the basics? Those books need to be checked.

I know the school has been absolutely punished on vendor contracts, to the point where certain events, despite a huge gross, have lost a lot of money.

That is truly disappointing. They need to fire everyone in the athletic department.

Is it possible that was Butch's endgame? Bring unprecedented scrutiny down on FIU to force change?

There's just no way they are using 9 year old uniforms. They'd be ripped to shreds. Maybe they haven't been updated in 9 years...sounds misleading from Butch.

Yeah that is bogus. As someone who has coached football teams before, jerseys start ripping and shredding after just a few years of use...less than 5 for sure.

He is not wrong, the parochial good ol’ boys network is strong in some parts of Miami.

I don't even think it's a Miami thing. I'm in facilities engineering and I kid you not, it's easier to do business in NYC than anywhere in Florida. Might be more paperwork, but at least regulations/fees are clearly defined and people get back to you.

When I work in Florida, out of nowhere, people come up with different rules and somebody needs to get paid for...something. People get back to you whenever they feel like it. Miami is probably worse, but I've had similar issues in Tampa and Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale.

I wouldn't be surprised there's massive corruption at FIU.

South Florida is pretty much the fraud capital of the world. Everyone needs to wet their beak.

I believe that coaches have an obligation to finish their contract, at least in simple non-renewal cases, but this situation is one where Davis needs to go yesterday. The problem is that that also goes for the AD, which essentially makes the university president the acting AD, who has to make the decision on who the acting coach will be. I hope they have an alumnus with a strong business and athletic background who could step in as an interim AD, to bring some sort of order to the program. They have their work cut out for them.

Least surprising article ever. FIU just needs to drop to DIV. II so we can all have more money.

Might not change anything. Smaller budget at D2 but still the same hands to feed.

Your admin will find a way to screw that up to. I have no doubt. You will soon be passed by those IAA call ups. And plus this won't be your daddys 2002 Sun Belt. Enjoy the mess over here. I hope WKU finds a way out.

It will be worse, with Marshall, ODU complaining about playing in empty high school gyms. Plus traveling to San Marcos, Monroe, Jonesboro.

You think CUSA was bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Last time Tech played ULM in football there 500 ULM fans, 5000 Tech fans and that was in Monroe.
LSU was playing at the same time.

What’s going happen when Southern Miss doesn’t get the Sunbelt baseball tournament?

They have pretty much had the CUSA baseball tournament for years and the 1 year Tech hosted all they did was complain. While every other team was complimentary

I really see the Sunbelt east breaking apart from the Sunbelt West.

The new schools already want to kick out Texas State. All the power will be in the Sunbelt East and schools like Southern Miss will start complaining very soon especially if they don’t get the Sunbelt Baseball tournament

The Sunbelt just became a bloated 14 team with worse travel

This exactly. Forget performance. How are they going to let him rip the school and then trot him out there for another two games? Really makes you wonder who’s running this **** show.

AD is gone. We already have an interim AD in his place.

Maybe after the dust and bad pub settles, this will be a good thing for FIU.

Might light a fire under the so-called "leaders" arses.

I know at MT there seems to be some changes being made. We shall see.

This is why I'm disappointed in CUSA's survival. It gives schools like FIU the opportunity to stay FBS, when they should be FCS. I'm glad the coach embarrassed them. It's sour grapes, but FIU needed to be exposed for this. Support your teams or get out.

Butch has a history of a lack of credibility. Butch is for Butch and Butch only. I think it's bad at fiu right now...but I think a lot of it is Butch is feeding the reporter.

The whole backdrop thing is crazy. Baptist Health is a premo sponsor that everyone there including Butch should be doing everything to make them happy.
