Most complete back I have ever seen for the Cajuns. Love that he's having success at the next level.

Louisiana fans, I knew there was a trio of RBs that all played around the same time frame.

Is this Elijah Mitchell emergence for real? Was he always the "dude"

It looks like he's destined for a 1,000 yard rookie year.

For that to happen as a 6th round pick is pretty remarkable.

RE: Another quick, but cool Elijah Mitchell article
Trey Ragas, Elijah Mitchell were always part of a trio mixed in with either Raymond Calais or Chris Smith. It’s easy to say after the fact, but I always knew he had IT. Frame, vision, burst, speed, power, ability to catch passes. Complete back. I remember being at a home game and CBN dialed up 3 straight pass plays 10 yards out of the end zone, and I audibly asked, “where the hell is Elijah?” And this woman turned around and said “EXACTLY. Elijah is automatic.” That lady was Levi Lewis’s mom whom I talked with the rest of the night. But she and her husband definitely called it that night that he’d be playing on Sundays, without a doubt.

It could be argued I was a bit biased towards Eli because he and I are both Erath Bobcats, but from his freshman year at UL I always said he was the closest we had to 3 down back that pro teams covet. Ragas was a banger, good guy to have at the end of games. Calais was the open space and kick return guy, getting by on his speed; he was supposed to be the starting kick returner for the Rams this year if not for injury. But Eli could do it all. He had the speed that Ragas didn’t have in the second level to outrun DB’s, but enough power and balance to hold his own when running between the tackles. Eli was also a more natural pass catcher. It’s not shocking to see him do well in a favorable pro system, especially with a coach who seems to be unafraid to start the late round pick over the early round one.

I think he was always the real deal. What's remarkable is that he fell to 6th round. If any RB from a P5 had his pro days numbers alone, not counting his college production they would be a 3rd rd pick. As a matter of fact look at his own team and draft class. Sermon was selected 3rd round with less college production and lower pro day numbers. Now Sermon can't get on the field.. What's good is once your on the team you have to earn playing time and Eli has shown he needs to be on the field. Sucks that perception cost him a couple rounds of money in his rookie contract. His lost will help someone else in the future not face the same hurtful perception.

Crazy that Eli split time pretty much 50/50 with Ragas and then split some of that with Calais/Smith as well.
