If that wasn't bad enough news, Isaiah Crawford, our all-conference post player, and 2nd best player on the team left the game early tonight against Jarvis Christian College with a knee injury. I think it's the same knee he hurt two years ago at UTEP. The knee injury two years ago was season ending and required surgery. He came back to the bench tonight on a crutch. If this injury is season ending then the Bulldogs season is all ready over, after barely starting.
Just horrible luck the Bulldogs have had with injuries the past 5 years. Two players with heart issues and one almost dying during practice; knee injuries, hand injuries, etc. Just can't catch a break. I'm praying Crawford's injury is not season ending, but it doesn't look good. I just don't see how Tech can recover when down three post players, with one being the 2nd best player on the team. If Coach Konkol can win CUSA this year that short-handed, then he deserves every accolade coming his way.
The rest of our non-conference games could be rough. We still have to play North Carolina St., Texas Southern, Santa Clara, LSU and ULL before conference play starts.
I was sad to read your account of your team's injuries this early in the season. It is horrible enough to have that happen at the tail end of the season. I agree with you that Tech has had more than their share of bad breaks with this along with the whole conference changing situation. I thoroughly enjoyed having ODU and Tech playing each other as conference mates and hate seeing that coming to an end. I hope that the two schools will be conference mates again sometime soon. Best wishes for your injured players to get back to playing again for the Bulldogs.

Thanks for the kind words. I was hoping the basketball season would be the ray of sunshine that our athletics department and school desperately needs right now. He'll get an MRI tomorrow to learn the extent of the damage. They said it was his opposite knee, not the one he hurt against UTEP two years ago. Praying that it's not serious and he can return this year.
Hopefully Tech and ODU can continue to play each other in basketball, even if we're in different conferences. Like you said, maybe we'll be conference mates again in the future. Best of luck to ODU the rest of this year, too

RE: Men’s basketball week 2
UNT's youth cost them tonight. Buffalo came back from an 11 point deficit in the second half and sneak out a 69-66 win against the Mean Green. While I'm disappointed in the defensive down the stretch, I'm hopeful for how this team will develop over the course of our OOC schedule. I've seen enough to determine UNT will again be among the better programs in C-USA this season, if we can stay healthy.
And for those that believe McCasland couldn't replace Hamlet, you are wrong. UNT again has an all-conference caliber point guard.... And in both of our games this season, he has come off the bench to lead all scorers.

If that is anything like putting a bar of soap inside of a pillowcase and then beating someone with it then yes... That is what took place.

The conference is losing too many close games. Georgia, Buffalo, Minn were all on the ropes. Still very early, but we're 3 games into the year and the conferences best win is Wright State...

Yeah, I was watching that off and on tonight. I literally chuckled when I saw the ending to the game, and that's sometimes the best therapy we have. My expectations were already so low that I had us 14th in C-USA in the power ranking thread. If we can't even beat A&M-Commerce at home, I'd put us even lower now if I could. Gonna just continue to enjoy football while I can. lol

That was certainly unexpected. What makes you an ODU supporter when you graduated from A&M-Commerce? Did you perhaps get your Masters from ODU? A&M-Commerce actually has a pretty good basketball program for their division. They actually have a decent Div. II football program as well, as they're 7-4 this year and 11-3 in their past season. They're even coached by David Baliff who was Rice's HC previously.

Yeah, A&M - Commerce seems to be much more successful in their athletic programs than when I was there, although back in the day we did put some pretty good players in the NFL (Harvey Martin, Super Bowl Cowboys; Dwight White, Super Bowl Steelers; Sam Walton, Super Bowl Jets).
I got my B.S. from ETSU and my Masters from Texas A&M. After putting 24 years in the USAF, I retired in 1992 with my last assignment at Langley AFB, and we settled in Chesapeake. Both of our daughters graduated from ODU. When they first put season tickets for 2009 football on sale, I may well have been the first in line. We got four seats on the 50 yard line on the East Side and have not missed a year since, although we are now down to two seats. I was a real Thomas DeMarco fan until he sprained his ankle, and some kid came in to play QB and would not get out of the way until he graduated four years later.
As a 61-year diehard Cowboys fan (I was at the first game they played in the Cotton Bowl in 1960), I now unbelievably have a burgundy No. 4 WFT jersey and celebrated all day Sunday after watching that kid from ODU lead the Team to a win over the Bucs and the GOAT. Of course, my two sons (who were raised on Staubach and Dorsett) now disavow any relationship with me. Thank goodness the liberal do-gooders forced the name change. I can honestly say that I have never cheered for the Skins! Cheers, all!

Nice! Thanks for your service, as my dad is a 21-year Army veteran, and his brother was in the Air Force for even longer. Had another brother in the Navy and yet another who was a Green Beret in Vietnam. I was born in Germany to a German mother and of course my American (native Texan) father.
I remember Harvey Martin btw!!! Those were the days for the Cowboys back in the 70's with the likes of Martin, Randy (Manster) White, Too Tall Jones, DD Lewis, Staubach, Hill, Tony Dorsett, Robert Newhouse, on and on. I remember so many names from those teams it's crazy. Those were just a few that immediately came to mind. I actually still even have several Dallas Cowboys Blue Books stashed in my home with some autographs from some of those guys, as well as a football signed by Herschel Walker.
Now I understand why your moniker is ODU Aggie. My younger brother is an Aggie btw and I secretly root against them every damn week. LOL Texas just has so many D1 football programs that have been around for so long, with entire families who for generations were raised to be fans of certain schools that it's been hard for a young program like UTSA to even get noticed. It's why this year has been so special for us in football, but we clearly still have a LONG way to go in basketball. lol
The Chesapeake area has always been a place I've wanted to visit btw, and I envy you living there. I'm a lifelong nature lover and I'm sure it's much nicer than the outskirts of Houston. lol

If Tech has lost Crawford for the season (hopefully not) that makes 3 gone from the frontline, starters and back-up, and makes even finishing .500 a challenge. The OOC is about to get tough, so look for some "L"s coming our way.

5 games on tap tonight. A couple of tough ones for FAU (Miami) and MTSU (Winthrop) but at least they host both of those games. Also, Rice hosts Southern, UTSA hosts Denver and UTEP hosts Northern New Mexico College. The conference needs a minimum 3-2 record tonight, but 4 or even 5 wins would be a nice evening.
