Tulsa really should have won that game. 4 downs from the 2 yard line and they didn't score.

To be fair, they would've needed that TD, a 2point conversion, to not have us score in regulation, THEN to beat us in overtime. To say they "should've won" is a bit disingenuous.

BearcatMan, you're correct and that's what's lost in the bolded statement. Watching the goal line stand, I did assume Tulsa would score six but thought the probability of converting a second two point conversion was low. If successful, we would have had overtime in Nippert and you have to like those odds too.

These games happen in the course of trying to have a perfect season. We just don't want another like that one this Saturday.

UC should have beat Ohio State in 2002. UC could have lost to UConn, WVU, and Pitt in 2009.
Going undefeated in the regular season is hard, you going to have games where you need a little bit of luck and another handful where you need to survive the chaos.

Here is the key question - are we capable of playing a full game? CLF has talked about playing our best ball in Nov. Hasn't happened yet. Hopefully, we can play a full game and we will. Here's to four straight games where we live up to our potential - and to seeing what happens in the NC game!!

SMUstang - sorry - it is gonna come at your expense. Cat's begin to roll this Sat!

UC should not have lost to UConn or WVU in 2009. They were in control of both games, never trailing in either and having 10 point lead against WVU and a 20 point lead against Uconn. They played a really weird 2nd quarter against Pitt (though honestly I bet if you looked at game control numbers they were still better than 50% to win that game).

I agree going unbeaten is hard...but those aren't games they "should have" lost.

I said could have lost. I think UC needed to stop a 2 point conversion with 5 minutes to go and recovered an onside kick in final seconds.

The WVU game was tied at half and also came down to a onside kick in the final minute.

I loved beating WVU when they had Pat White and company. Going to be fun to start playing them again even if the Hillbillies load up the truck and drive to the Nati.

It'll be fun just seeing opposing team fans in our stadium again.

Still the most in danger I've ever felt in my life was walking out of Milan Puskar after that game in '08. I lived for 6 months in Riyadh, KSA in the late 00's for a site management rotation and felt less like everyone wanted to kill me there.

Have to stop playing conservative on both sides of the ball when we get up a couple of scores. That has plagued us in all of these last 4 games. Yes, we may give a big play or turn the ball over by playing more aggressive, but it's worth it. The conservative style leads to points as well, just over more time.

I was their and did not have any problems but it sounds like many did. The fans I met? from WVU in Cincy were total Jackas$es. They proved that drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.

The following year Subflea sat with my wife and I in our seats in the first row of Shank and a nice family from WVU sat behind us...they didn’t want to leave their baby goats in the RV so they smuggled them into the game under their daughters’ sweatshirts. I knew then it was the same planet, different worlds.

Bolded, well said. Adding a couple more scores in several of our games could have turned the tide on some white knuckle finishes. Seems to me it often forces the opponent to go away from their base offense and when that doesn't work, even more pressure mounts on that offense to score on higher risk plays that ultimately mean our defense gets off the field faster too.

Be careful, if you get into a shootout with SMU, chances are you will lose.

OK but look at this:

Points per game: SMU - 41.6, Cincinnati - 39.2
Yards per game: SMU - 498.7, Cincinnati - 418.7

Granted you have the home field advantage, but...........
