I recall this game being hyped, with the winner getting a Liberty Bowl bid ("Liberty Bowl Alliance"). I recall that ECU beat the doors off of us 30-6, and Steve Logan (ECU's coach) calling a time out just before the clock expired to allow us to run one final play to score and avoid a "skunk".

We had beaten Arkansas, and won for the 1st time in Oxford during that season. This was Stobart's 3rd 6-5 season, and he was replaced by Rip Scherer the next year.

Remember the game well. We had an opportunity to go to the next level and went out there and laid a giant egg. No way that was one person, it takes the entire Univ to accomplish that debacle; President, AD, Coach, QB, MLB, Cheerleaders, band, mascot.... blah

I am still not over it.

I don't "remember it well" but I do remember being sickened by the pitiful crowd for such an important game. I think that had a lot to do with the team laying an egg. With all the hype leading up to the game, they expected home field advantage support. Instead they got crickets.

"I'll support 'em when they deserve it." "I'll go to games that matter." Yeah, right. People would go to to games against the SEC hoping for one of the miracles so they could rub it in the faces of their SEC loving coworkers and friends. Pitiful little losers trying to massage their egos.

Looks like we do have numerous fans like that.
