Considering the circumstances of how this roster came to be the early returns are pretty good.

It will take some time to get all of the pieces working well together.

RE: MBB Georgia Game Thread
Better a win than a loss but:

Coach: Tom Crean (fourth year at Georgia)

2020-21 record: 14-12, 7-11 SEC

Top returning player: F Jaxon Etter (2.4 ppg, 1.1 rpg)

Top newcomer: F Jabri Abdur-Rahim (transfer from Virginia)

Bold prediction: It’s hard to see more than just a few SEC wins given a virtually entirely new roster took a major hit when top returner P.J. Horne was lost for the season in October with a knee injury. Gonzaga transfer Aaron Cook has big shoes to fill after Sahvir Wheeler jumped to Kentucky.

At this point it’s just who he is. I’d prefer to see the ball in MAW’s hands when it counts. Sanders is tough to have out there with the ball in close games since he struggles from the line.

This team has a lot of nice pieces but there are holes in a lot of their games that are going to make Wes earn his keep.

Wes is playing a ton of guys and honestly might all year. This team may have 10 guys capable of starting for tournament caliber teams in the right situation but zero Ideally suited to be the go to our second best guy on. Unless one or two guys emerge might as well use our depth to give different looks and keep up the intensity.

Coach Wes has said multiple times that the rotations may, and probably will be, a work in progress until into 2022... He's been pretty straight with us so far so I see no reason to doubt him. He's trying to figure out what he has and in what situation. I trust him on this one and in the long run IMO it will be a better developmental situation for the team come conference and (hopefully) tournament play.

I sure as hell don't see much to separate the first 5 on this roster from the next 5...

RE: MBB Georgia Game Thread
The rotations have definitely had some weirdness, Lakhin for example came in at center (with Davenport at the 4) for the first all game, with 4 minutes left in the second half. Some of the late game free throw shooting subs were odd too. But we don't know what he has seen in practice or what he is trying out for the future, so I'm not going to question him until at least conference play.

I think Ody has clearly been the worst of our bigs and Ado hasn't been that much better. Everyone else has been pretty interchangeable and brings different things to the floor. The constant rotation is definitely odd to me after our prior coaches tending to pick one rotation and stick to it. It feels like the same lineup is rarely on the court for a stretch of more then 3 minutes. Probably takes some getting used to for the players to.

I think DDJ just had a rough shooting night..but i definitely want MAW taking more shots even though his night wasn't much better. Not a very good game offensively for Madsen either. Georgia is bad. Could have very easily been a 20 point game if a few more shots had fallen IMO.

The mind blowing thing is watching Saunders shoot free throws. It's bad even in pregame and halftime warm ups. A 6' guard from Indiana can't sniff 70% from the line.

Heard Dan say in the post game that he was still in the arena shooting them when they were interviewing Wes. At least he know he has to get a lot better.

RE: MBB Georgia Game Thread
My thoughts are DDJ can not be the focal point on offense.

Ball should be in MAW or JDs hands, even Lahkin at high post ft area is better decision maker.

Saunders and Madsen should be getting more of DDJs time.

Newman should get more touches in the mid range area, he has that Keith Williams tripple threat ability.

Closing lineup should be MAW, Madsen, JD, Lahkin, Koval, then defense Newman and Saunders.

Those would be my top 7 right now need one of the other bigs to be a threat from the weakside/drop off. Lahkin and Koval can be the pick high post guy.

The Houston Strategy.

Used to be the Bearcat Strategy before Sampson stole the blueprint.

And Brannen tore our copy up...

"It was a great atmosphere," said Georgia head coach Tom Crean following the game. "We knew it would be. I've been here many, many times. You can't hear yourself think. They did a really good job, and they have a really good team. It was a big win for Cincinnati, and it was a big learning step for us."

Very gracious comments on Crean's part.

My question is, did the University of Georgia get "Tubervilled" with Crean's hiring?

Crean hasn’t been all that stellar since Dwayne Wade left Marquette. Indiana got Tubberville’ed. Georgia is just getting robbed. He’ll be doing studio work for ESPN this time next year.

Yep, Creans resume minus DWade isn't impressive. Obviously that's not the way it works as he deserves credit for finding and developing an NBA Hall of Famer but he's lived off that far longer than he should have. UGA isn't really a great basketball destination though, it's not like people are fighting for that job.

He’s the 23rd highest paid coach in the game literally making double what Wes is. His 6.5 million buyout is the only thing keeping him from getting fired this March.

Crean still had some really good teams at IU. His 2013 team won the Big Ten, spent most of the year at number 1 and made the Sweet 16. Finished top 7 in both polls.

Bearcat fans would basically go crazy if we could a season like that again.

Indiana fans are probably missing those years as well compared to what has followed.

That Yogi Ferrel, Cody Zeller, Christian Watford, Oladipo team was great. Ran into the Boeheim zone in the Sweet 16 and totally **** the bed.
