SMU responded really strong today, it might be too little too late. Next week will tell us a LOT about both Cincy and SMU.

If the SMUtangs are entertaining thoughts of getting into the champ game, they are really pinning their hopes on ECU pulling the upset of the year.

I'm glad the Coogs are in, drama free! 02-13-banana

It’s a 3 way tie if ECU and SMU win out. The clearer path is ECU winning out with a smu win vs uc and loss vs Tulsa then head to head over UC. Or For SMU winning out and ECU loses to navy. 3 way tie likely goes to UC.

i'd rather us play UC than Memphis or Uconn. I always hate those games and we never seem to play our best against either one of those schools. we could very well lose them both.

Clearly the schedule was made before Aresco knew we would be doing a heal turn. We would have had Cincy, UCF, Memphis, and SMU on the road if he'd known.

ECU is really playing as well as anyone in this league not named Cincy, it honestly wouldn't shock me if we won out.

Hey now, we played (and beat) ECU, and according to their fans, they're just as good as Cincy so put that in your pipe and smoke it! 02-13-banana

RE: Houston clinches spot in AAC Championship game
Updated standings for those with a chance:

Houston 7-0*
Cincy 6-0
SMU 4-2
ECU 4-2

*Clinched title game appearance.

Everyone else has at least three conference losses and is eliminated.

Relevant Schedule
11/20 - SMU @ Cincy 2:30 CST on ESPN, ECU @ Navy 2:30 CST on CBSSN
11/26 - Cincy @ ECU, Tulsa @ SMU

Cincy's magic number is one. They must:

1) beat SMU, or if not
2) beat ECU, or if not
3) have Navy beat ECU on 11/20 and Tulsa beat SMU on 11/26.

Conceivably, there could be a 2-way or 3-way tie at 6-2 if Cincy loses the last two. In that case, Cincy lost head to head to both of the other 6-2 team(s). I assume that means Cincy is out.

**********

In terms of bowl eligibility...

Cincy
Houston
SMU
UCF
ECU

qualify with at least six wins.

Memphis needs one more win. The Tigers close @Houston and home vs. Tulane.
Tulsa needs to win each of their last two games including @SMU to close the season.

Navy, Tulane, USF and Temple are eliminated with seven+ losses.

RE: Houston clinches spot in AAC Championship game
I'd like to believe MEMPHIS will win at least the Tulane game to get a bowl bid but we will see.

MEMPHIS lost the USTSA, Temple, Tulsa, and ECU games by a combined total of 13 points.

I guess the "good news" is we are enduring a lot of close losses BUT they are in the same season. Maybe this is just our season to tolerate this sh!tty luck and have a down year. Frustrating but it happens.

Regarding the AAC Championship this year, I do believe it will be Houston at Cincinnati. That will be a helluva game.

Good point. The AAC championship game committee agrees and has acknowledged Houston deserves a berth in the AAC Championship Playoff.

The committee is still skeptical about Cincinnati.

Also this committee hasn’t actually watched any Cincinnati games.

RE: Houston clinches spot in AAC Championship game
As weird as it sounds, ECU actually has a small gate and a narrow path to the CCG. The only scenario where this happens is this:

ECU beats Navy and Cincy.
SMU beats Cincy and loses to Tulsa.

This would leave SMU at 5-3, ECU and Cincy at 6-2, giving the Pirates the head-to-head tiebreaker for the championship game.

FWIW, as of today, ESPN's FPI projections put the Pirates' chance of making and winning the CCG at 0.1%.

RE: Houston clinches spot in AAC Championship game
The AAC has a policy to determine tiebreakers if there is no head-to-head matchup or CFP ranking. This is only one small part:

6.4.5.If no tied teams are ranked in the latest available CFP Selection Committee rankings going into the final weekend of the Conference regular season, a composite average of selected computer rankings (Anderson & Hester, Billingsley, Colley and Wolfe) after all teams conclude the final weekend of the Conference regular season will be used to determine the Championship Game participants.
