I watch quite a bit of DIII football, and some of these production complaints sounds like what I’m used to watching.

Sam Houston has been a mystery to me since I found out about them when they joined the WAC. Today, they are 9-0 and defending national champions of their level, but draw just over 6,000 fans today. I don't get it at all.

That’s 5,500 more fans than Rice. Pretty much the whole state of Texas is UT and Texas A&M fans. Houston and SMU even struggle to fill their moderate sized stadiums during good years. Houston is 9-1 and hasn’t even reached 26,000 for their home games. A school as big as Houston, in a city as big as Houston, can not even get 26,000 fans to attend a home game when they’re 9-1. If you aren’t UT or Texas A&M you don’t matter in Texas.

Honestly might be better than UTEPs lol. I'm more suprised by the lack of fans in the stands.

If fans in the stands is what C-USA wants then you hit a homer un with JSU. They draw irrationally well. Sam Houston? They have great teams, but they’ve never really been known for packing them in.

If SHSU can’t get over 6500 while being perfect, what are they going to draw when they are 5-5. They will look like a directional Michigan school in the stands. Play wise they may be ready for FBS, but support wise looks to be a different story.

Texas doesn't support FCS ball like in some states. They'll be fine in CUSA. Probably same trajectory as GaSt. A few years in they'll be bringing in 14-19k.

I actually know the kid switching those games at Sam. Great kid but minimal experience. One thing you all will appreciate about having Liberty in the league is the production quality.

In fairness, I live near Sam and I don't know hardly anybody who even knows they won an FCS title this spring. The school does practically no marketing and sits far enough out of the Houston area that they rarely ever have a camera show up to any of their sporting events ... outside of an occassional little station over in Bryan/College Station on slow days or when the Aggies are there.

Which has been one of the best side benefits for ESPN+; kids learning in a real world event. App has a pretty impressive broadcasting department ($10 million dollar donation to the student radio a few years back, MTV's college station of the years a handful of times, new student ran TV station, etc) but this ESPN+ production crew is going to help land kids who don't want to be on mic or in front of camera jobs they wouldn't normally have experience to qualify for. It's a great learning lab

How is that ok with CUSA?

LOL! Welcome to the party. FIU has lower production values than your average Twitch.tv streamer.
What do they do when a P5 comes to town?

Usually Stadium or CBSSN will pick those up and produce them. It is when FIU produces their own (think ESPN+) that they are awful.
.
That's the main issue with Stadium and CBS Sports compared to ESPN+. The production quality is superior to the ESPN+ broadcast but the availability aspect is their main downfall.

The southland 4 joined the WAC saying one of main complaints was the old conference schools didn't invest in digital streaming enough. 04-jawdrop

Sam Houston looks like they are streaming on an old cellphone with a smear of Vaseline on the lens. Maybe they'll pick up a Black Friday $20 webcam and step into the modern world. As is, the video on my ring video doorbell blows them away.

Ask Judy. Thats the kind of stuff that will drive you crazy in CUSA. Especially since you seem to understand how these things actually matter.

I would be interested to get thoughts on NMSU's production quality. I am biased and think it is pretty good, but just curious what others think. Below is a link to the UTEP Game a couple weeks ago on ESPN+

Sam Houston has work to do on multiple fronts

The people I talk to feel that we won’t see any announcements or movement on anything until after the current football season is over so not to distract there. The Kats are the top seed in the FCS playoffs and await the winner of Incarnate Word and SFA. If SFA, they could have a huge crowd for the next round of the playoffs.

Either way, curious how quickly Sam announces things that move the needle as it relates to their FBS membership. They moved pretty fast to accept the invite but did so knowing progress would have to be made quickly on facilities, operations (such as the broadcasts you speak of) and more
