So, when is okay to worry?

We know we are losing a few and we currently have nobody coming in…

Nothing new. We will start desperation recruiting this summer and take the high rated players that other schools seem to shy away from and/or a couple of reclassifications.

So far on our current roster we can expect to lose these players after this season:

Duren (NBA)
Lomax (Senior)
Williams (Senior)
Harris (Senior)
Bates (Most likely explores other options)

So that would leaves these players below that are capable of being our go to guy:

Minott (who is great player, but still doesn't have a jumper or 3 pt shot)
Nolley (who I really don't have faith in staying around here)
Quinonez (he is a good puzzles piece, but not consistent to lead us)

The rest of the team are made up of only role players. We need to recruit some ballers in the transfer portal or it will be a long season next year....

Lomax will be back, he gets a free covid year. Might apply to the other seniors as well.

O commits.

Coach should do like Silverfield and transition away from young highschoollers and go after juco's and transfers....

Guessing he didn't like the idea of "redshirting" next year ...

Redshirt. Yep. Coach knows he needs proven guys like Deandre and Nolley.

Great move.

That is certainly not a good look... Your team is struggling, you have only one commitment to keep up and you still are not in consistent contact...

Sounds like the guy just wanted a little check-in time with Penny once every couple of weeks…like a 5-10 minute how’s school going? How’s your game progressing? You staying healthy? Bc we going to need you next year. And that’s it…if he still wanted to decommit after that then his loss and we move on. I just hope Penny did make the effort and this kid is using this as a reason to bail, but who knows.

Or was the not checking in intentional? Instead of pulling the offer which looks bad did they 'encourage' him to leave? I don't have a clue, but having watched him play I didn't see him contributing for a number of years if ever.

Then, why offer and sign him to begin with?

I don't disagree with that at all and I think many on here were scratching their heads when we did. Only a few folks really know the story and likely not any of us on here.

I think the hope is that staff was finding diamonds in the rough but maybe, like Knox, they never made that jump that was expected.

I saw he's at IMG this year, don't know how he's doing.

8/6/21 - Duren
8/25/21 - Bates

So pick your date to start worrying, but it ain't now.

Talent level has not been and is not our issue. The talent level between the top 200-300 kids, is pretty similar, outside of the top handful.

And that strategy is not exactly working out... The portal transfers by nature have to be later. However, I really do not think the strategy of adding players last minute, like was done with Bates and Duren, bodes well for team chemistry and all but guarantees a slow start. It was either this thread or another but someone referred to it as pulling a rabbit out of the hat and that does not seem like a sound recruiting strategy. Beyond all of that, we already had multiple other recruits committed/signed. We were not going into April with ZERO recruits on board. This is very different than last year.

you quibble with the #1 class from last year
we got an entire starting lineup after the season last year
in that case, worry if you must

Again… how is that working out? We have had 2 #1 classes and yet to make an NCAA tournament.
