Keith Gill - radio interview - soccer affiliates confirmed?
Just heard Keith Gill interviewed on sports radio in Richmond talking JMU/ODU/SBC expansion.

He talked about a bunch of stuff we all know already, but there were a couple very interesting points:

-one major goal of expansion was to move Troy to the west

-SBC will work with JMU regarding CAA actions, and conference is trying to have NCAA speed up transition. Though he couldn't be specific as nothing is set in stone, it sounded to me like he wants JMU in the SBC and playing at least a partial SBC football schedule next season.

-regarding men's soccer, he said when adding the 3 new schools to our existing programs, COMBINED WITH A FEW AFFILIATES, the SBC will be one of the best men's soccer leagues. I know I haven't seen anything official about adding affiliates (only rumors and tweets), but that sounds pretty much like official confirmation of what you soccer guys have been touting.

Maybe this will help encourage South to restart our men’s program. Does anyone know if Bonner is a soccer hooligan???

Would be amazing for JMU to play a partial (or even full) SBC slate next year.

He said something about the conference and schools helping out with scheduling. I took it to mean, if any of of us have an opening, JMU will fill it, but I could be wrong.

It would shock me if he were. I assume he's pretty much only interested in Bama football.

I wonder if it would be possible for JMU to join SBC spring sports this year. We obviously can’t move basketball at this point, but I don’t see why we couldn’t change conferences before the start of the baseball/softball season. Changing in the middle of an academic year is unconventional, but I don’t see why it couldn’t happen.

I would also like to see our women’s lacrosse go ahead and move to the Big East for the spring season.

Baseball/softball schedules are set and published. Travel arrangements may already have been arranged.

I look for Marshall to be one of the teams helping JMU out.

If we join Sun Belt in 2022, we lose the home OOC game with App State, that becomes a conference game

JMU will come to Huntington.

Problem is no SBC school has an OOC opening unless Marshall comes in early and their game vs App turns into a conference game. I replied in another thread to some JMU posters regarding open dates. I believe UConn, UMass, some MAC teams, the MUTS, and UAB were the only FBS teams with openings next year.

RE: Keith Gill - radio interview - soccer affiliates confirmed?
I wonder if Gill is going to petition the NCAA to allow JMU to have a 1 year transition and they move all sports into the SBC next season? That's the vibe I sort of got from his comment on their timetable.

Maybe they still have to do 2 season transition but both can be a member of the SBC so they play a SBC schedule 2 years in a row?

They should have extra scholarship players already due to having an increase thanks to the free covid year.

From my understanding that is the hope and plan from the comments of AD Jeff Bourne. They really want to be in the SBC as soon as possible.

I meant G5. Teams you can schedule a H-H with. Although that list of 3 may have a team willing to do a H-H.

JMU is considered FBS next year for scheduling purposes. I guess it’s more a matter if you get conference scheduling to work. To me you need either 1 or all of the teams from CUSA to join next year as well to balance numbers in divisions.
