Rice names new school President

Reginald DesRoches is named the new President (effective this summer). He's a great hire by athletics standards as he's a former Faculty Athletics Rep at Georgia Tech, and his daughter is on the Rice soccer team.

He's an engineer by trait though, which makes him another natural fit at Rice.

Congratulations! Most folks would be surprised by the size of Rice's athletic budget. I suspect that with a bit more investment spent wisely, Rice has the potential to compete in the AAC.

The key part of this response... +1

Reggie is potentially a home run for us though. Many of our past Presidents have not had a lot of experience in 'competitive' athletics but without every school having the same academic standards. The IVY league isn't really much of a model for us in that regard. Reggie was Berkeley undergrad (so PAC) and then Athletics Rep and VP of the ACC at Ga Tech (as faculty).

Saw his CV and he really looks like a winner for Rice Athletics.
