RE: Rice MBB at Houston (Nov. 12)
Just got back from watching Columbia and Marist play. Columbia had some interesting pieces, but they were less athletic at every position and really struggled getting into the paint. Resulted in a lot of forced perimeter shots. Any other basketball games on?

Anyway, this is always the worry when you shoot so many 3s. You're going to have bad shooting days, and more likely than not, it'll happen when you're up against defenses that have good perimeter discipline (and good athletes). It sucks, no way around that. But it's also an ever present risk when you run such an offensive system. I think the bigger concern was the 1st half defense, though, like I said, not having Mullins to defend Sasser isn't an insignificant loss. We still very much need work on that end. Hopefully there's constant improvement throughout the year.

Sasser is very good. Better than Grimes was for them a few years ago.

23 points off of TOs for Houston, 0 for Rice. Pera's defenses have always struggled generating TOs. It's not the end of the world for a defense, but if you also sometimes struggle on the glass, it means a lot of the time your opponent is going to attempt a bunch more shots.

Why would you want run am up-tempo offense against a top 25 team especially if you are shooting so poorly? Why not go to a more half court offense to slow the game down. We're playing in UH hands which is more athletic.

I was watching a movie with the wife - just tuning in now unfortunately.

You can tell Olivari isn't healthy - that's been obvious in both of the games. Just work on getting him back to health by conference play.

Sick and tired of being embarrassed by Rice sports. Over and over and over again.

Amen. Seems to have really happened a lot since about 2014.

I have a different take while watching this. I see a Rice team that's talented and game, but just way overmatched by NBA caliber players who are playing with great intensity.

I thought the UH fan base would have decent basketball knowledge but from the comments around me that’s not the case. Guess they don’t just struggle scholastically

Maybe if Rice used their "scholastic" advantage the athletic department and teams wouldn't be the continued embarrassment of the state.

Rice doesn't even look like it belongs in the same collegiate level as UH.

Think Geron and McDowell should've been in the rotation since the 10 minute mark in the 2nd half. They're not ready (clear from Pera's treatment) but I'm a fan of trial by fire. Playing against this Houston team for 5-10 minutes each would be super helpful.

We don't in just about any sport these days. Sad how far we've fallen.

I don’t ever recall seeing such an utter domination start-to-finish by one team favored by such a modest margin (13.5 at tip).

Literally our ONLY run of the game of any kind was a 5-0 run mid second half.

Literally.

After scoring first UH just took the lead and grew it all. Night.
