No whining about ticket prices or having to pay for parking or worrying about the "3rd Ward" The METRO rail will let you off next to the stadium if you are concerned about paying for parking. The team needs your support and we want to make this rivalry something special again!

I used to go to games at UH, but no more-can't deal with their way obnoxious fans.....

If I worried about other fans I would never go to a game. I really like what Coach P is developing at Rice and I am happy to head to the 3rd Ward and watch the game. UH Fans are much better overall than UTEP fans or the University of Entitlement up in Austin. The team needs you to be there to support them.

I have attended Rice at LSU(FB), Rice at Texas(FB), Rice at Iowa State(FB), Rice at SMU(FB), Rice at TCU(FB, BSKB, BB), Rice at Baylor(FB, BB), Rice at Nevada-Reno(BSKB). Would never venture to UH.

I totally understand your position if you are living in the DFW area (as it states in your profile). But Houston-based Owls fans need to travel to Cullen Boulevard to support this team.

Olivari needs to play for us to have a chance.

I don't necessarily agree about Mullins. Remember, he's easily our best defensive guard. A Kelvin Sampson team is going to present very different challenges than a shorthanded, inexperienced Pepperdine team. Mullins would almost certainly be the guy tasked with guarding Marcus Sasser, who scored 25 against Hofstra and 20 in each of their Elite 8 and Final Four games as a freshman.

I think Pierre has a chance to be a good defensive player. I don't want to see him matched up with 6-7 or 6-8 posts, but he has the size to guard a 6-4 or 6-5 guard.

And while I would love to win tonight, it's more important for our long range goals to have a healthy Mullins and Olivari. So don't play them if you think it will jeopardize their ability to get back to 100 percent.

I'd also say that Lippert has shown quite a bit of improvement in the first two games I've seen from him this year (exhibition and Pepperdine). If both Mullins and Olivari can't start, there is a chance we start him along with Evee and Pierre. McBride and Hutchins would be the two guards off the bench in that case.

Last time I went to a basketball game over there, I had gravel thrown at me by students (while inside the building), and returned to my car to find a dirty diaper stuck inside my driver's door handle.

RE: Rice MBB at Houston (Nov. 12)
Let's see. I've been to Rice at UH, TexasU, The Ohio State U, UAB, LSU, Tulane, TCU, SMU, TT, Baylor, aTm, Washington, New Mexico, Ga Tech, and I am trying to remember if any others. And I even did stats for UH as well as Rice for a number of years when Ted Nance was at UH.

My most memorable Rice at UH would have been some time during the Phi Slama Jama era over there. It was my Navy Reserve drill weekend, down on OST, and one of my First Class Petty Officers had made Chief, so we celebrated it in the time honored tradition of getting stinking drunk after the Saturday drill. I knew I could not make it home in that condition, but I figured I was good to go as far as Hofheinz, which was a very short run, and Rice was playing UH. So my plan was get to UH, I still had a UH reserved parking sticker from doing stats, find my way into Hofheinz, and spend two hours sobering up to a point that I would hope I could get home. Fortunately, statute of limitations has run on all this. Anyway, as I came staggering into Hofheinz, Ted met me and said, "I'm so glad you're here, our scoreboard operator is sick, could you run the scoreboard for us?" I replied, "Actually, no, I probably can't," by which time Ted had guessed my condition. Laughing, he replied, "OK, I see, I will try to find somebody else. But I may need you as a last resort." Sure enough, it came down to last resort time. Ted came back to me and said, "I don't have anyone else. I've explained your situation to both Schuler and Guy V, and they are both okay with having you do it, even in your condition." In addition to my condition, I had never run the Hofheinz scoreboard, and it was a pretty complicated matter. Anyway, things went pretty well until the last couple of minutes. We had Mel Whitworth for a referee that night, and he was a hothead (the Angel Hernandez of SWC basketball officials) who was probably the worst possible choice for the situation, and there was a controversy about the score with about a minute left (the fact that Rice was making the game close enough that anyone cared was newsworthy enough). Anyhow, I very quickly found myself staring across the scoreboard console at Schuler, Guy V, Whitworth, and UH assistant Harvey Pate (who somehow got a technical for his trouble). The matter got sorted, thanks to my good friend and scoring crewmate Ralph Bearden. But it's not one that I will likely forget any time soon.

16-5 UH. I've seen enough.

Pepperdine must be the worst team in college basketball.

Their length is bothering our shooting. Think Olivari’s wrist must be hurting him too.

We're not 100% crisp in the first 8 minutes, but we must be watching different games if that's your takeaway so far.

My takeaway is that Rice has less talent than dozens of high schools. This is an embarrassment.

Can you name a single high school that would have gotten as many open looks as we have against this defense? Or one that would have drawn six fouls so far? If our open shots fall, we're in a fight, and these same players have shown that they can make those exact same looks on other nights. It's not a talent problem.
