JMU - beautiful campus, solid academics (R2 status coming soon) and athletics (they do sponsor Swimming and Lacrosse). Potential rivalries vs Marshall, App State, and ECU. They just need to build some FBS history now but great potential overall. If I wasn’t an Auburn alumnus, I would be jealous.

After teaching high school Chemistry, I've sent many a good student to JMU.
After that, in the Sunbelt I'm kinda crushing on CCU and App. State.
Same. I have a lot of friends that went there. I visited them in Sunchase many times. My wife's side of the family just had a niece graduate from JMU and are really excited to be able to start coming to ODU and JMU games as a group.
For me, Southern Miss. Love their tradition, and we've fought some good recent battles, and have a bit of history with them. Currently, they hold an 8-6 edge over us, although we've won the last three meetings. TRUST ME: They will get back to their former winning ways, and they'll be a tough out for anyone in the very near future!
1. App St. - our wrestling pals, wonderful location, I like their fans!
2. UTA - Similar to us, only thing holding me back is the fact that they always make basketball games close lol
3. ULM - hard to root against them

From existing SBC members- Louisiana, because we have much shared history and are similar institutions.
From new SBC members- Marshall, because of a history of tough competition and mutual respect in CUSA 2.0 and 3.0.
Also, I respect all the SBC schools because they have shown respect to Southern Miss as the move came about. It's good to be wanted and respected by your conference and your peers. We lost much of that when CUSA 2.0 evolved into 3.0.
I am a Little Rock fan but root for A State in football. I have also always liked and followed UL Monroe and Southern Miss because of family connections.
App State- What's not to like? Black and Gold.. They play at a stadium named The Rock.. They've knocked off some big time programs. I can respect that.
Marshall- Old conference mate and a few years ago I actually were hoping they'd pull off a good run of title in CUSA.
Louisiana- Love the name Rajun Cajuns.. Plus they're close to home and I've spent time in that part of the state.
Troy- Lived in Montgomery for a spell so I got to hear alot about Troy and know people who attended Troy.

My parents and pretty much my entire extended family live in the Shenandoah Valley very near Harrisonburg and have for many generations. That said I’d root for Georgia Southern
For me, App State would be my second choice. I know it’s sacrilege, but rivals are those you hate because you respect them and what they can do to you on any given year. I think App State also has a very similar culture with a small boondocks town and heavy emphasis on football with many FCS national championships. Would also be nice to have a team that wins no matter who the coach is again.

Has to be Marshall for me. I have ties to the Chambers and McNeer families (Herd insiders know who they are) and spent a number of summers in my youth at Camp Greenbrier in Alderson.

Ya think? Until recently they had a policy not to schedule in state schools. They also fought us to try to keep Arkansas State College from being a University. I also believe they fought A-State when it added the first doctoral programs.
Men's hoops played at Fayetteville in NIT in 1987. Most intense, electric sporting event I've ever attended. Rumor has it Nolan Richardson would have been fired if the Hogs didn't win in OT.
Other than that Women's NIT in Jonesboro that A-State won handily.
I think they've pulled out of golf tournaments because A-State was in the field.
Finally played baseball in '21, after the policy changed.
When you have arrogant fans that look down on your University and talk ****, yet say they have nothing to gain by playing that tends to generate some bad blood.
ODU because they're the other big city research school, App because I love the NC mountains and would probably really like the school itself, and ULM because I love seeing them succeed with limited resources.
