Real budget numbers
EADA and USA Today both made up of lots of numbers in an attempt to get normalized rankings- but fail when they include certain things that aren't part of the "true" athletic budget
my favorite is how much is your President or Chancellor paid because in one of those 30% of his salary is allocated to Athletics even the part paid for by outside agencies like a Foundation who supplements his salary
I bet if you were to ask your AD almost all of us in Sun Belt will be between 28-35 million

RE: Real budget numbers
and at the G5 level we all are supported at around 40-65 % from students
don't get hung up on what is called student fees
it is either student fees or a direct allocation from the university which mostly comes from students

RE: Real budget numbers
It is a herculean task, and one that is almost impossible. Just here in Virginia, and that is all that I can speak to, it is a convoluted mess of BS.
As you saw in the other thread. there were the "official" FY audited financial reports, which differed from the "official" NCAA compliance reports, which differ from the Cox Law compliance reports (those include capital expenditures and everything but the kitchen sink in order to show 55% student fee adherence).
And that's just for the G5 (JMU, ODU).
The Cox Law has different proscriptions for P5 programs in Va. I haven't looked at Virginia Tech for example, but I know that it's football HC's salary is paid entirely by their athletic foundation from donations. So, I would expect reports that included that figure when expedient (student fees) and not included when another story needed to be told.

RE: Real budget numbers
as an example when we built our HTC center (basketball/volleyball)
and if you have ever seen it 1/2 is arena other half is student recreation
it is about half and half with no access back and forth
In SC it was put 1/2 against athletics even though it is used for graduations and convocations and 1/2 against students
but EADA put the entire thing against athletics $54 about 10 years ago

RE: Real budget numbers
That’s because the various entities and agencies that require universities to report these figures didn’t create their reporting requirements with message board dick measuring in mind. Shame really.

App State head coach's salary is somewhere in the 450 to 500 range all of the rest of it comes from the athletic foundation.

Here's one thing that baffles me that I can't figure out the answer to - and no one else seems to know either.
For some schools, their EADA and USA Today numbers are the same. For other schools, it'll be much higher in one than the other. This makes comparing budgets difficult because how do you know which one is the accurate number? Especially when some schools are higher in EADA and others are higher in USA Today -- Cincinnati is $30 million higher in one than the other!

One of the things that is difficult to analyze or compare is the non-athletic institutional support....For instance, are the salaries of the grounds employees who take care of your facilities, or the maintenance department who repairs and maintains your facilities charged to athletics or general campus grounds and maintenance? If you own buses, who paid for them and who pays to maintain them? Are you charged to use the buses? One of the biggest ones is the actual cost of utilities. Many large business / universities pay a flat rate for power, sewer and water so none of those cost are paid by athletics....
All of these types of shared benefits greatly enhance the budgets of those who are fortunate enough to receive the services at no cost but it does not show in athletic support.....Great for stuff for those who benefit like this....but very misleading when institutional support for athletics is reported.....
