Absolutely! I just need to know whether I have until 2022 or 2023 to clean my house and make my back yard presentable...

Or try and convince Trey Smith (Rice '06) to host the event at Saint-Germain. He was recently named as Food & Wine's best new chef. You might be able to leverage the Rice connection to snag a table there (I couldn't find one during AGU in a month and half...)

2019 article on him from the Rice Mag: https://magazine.rice.edu/2019/05/bistro-love/

Deeee-lish! But it seems to be a tiny place:

"The Dining room is only 12 seats ... "

Sounds a bit like the old Corinne Dunbar's, which location along St. Charles is now a drug store, I think.

Jeff Van Gundy participated in the blackout.

(of course, he seems to wear dark sweats a lot, so maybe it wasn't by design)

I asked one of my Rice-fan foodie friends from the area, and she thought you might want to try (if you haven't already):

1) Elysian Bar in the old St. Peter and Paul church ... "if that is hidden enough for him" ... https://www.theelysianbar.com/

2) "A great new restaurant" called St. John. ... https://saintjohnnola.com/ and
https://www.facebook.com/SaintJohnNOLA

(One her friends is the manager; they also run Gris-Gris.)

She does advise that "nothing stays 'hidden' for very long though."

Bon appetit!!

Thanks! These have both been added to my list.

I might have to give Saint John's a try, if anything because it's next door to one of my favorite bars in the French Quarter (Cane & Table). I learned a number of years ago that Cane & Table will put most of their cocktails into a cored pineapple for a small charge. And then, NOLA being NOLA, every other bar will do the exact same (but without the extra fee). The French 75 bar didn't even bat an eye when we brought pineapples in with us and asked them to fill them with a good drink.

A la bas!

To co-opt a famous observation by Voltaire: if New Orleans didn't exist, it would have been necessary to invent it.

Worry not.
When the topic is “I’m just wondering”, it is tautologically impossible to wander off topic.

Not to drag this too off topic, but if anyone has a recommendation for what they might call a hidden gem in the Quarter/Frenchman St/Bywater area for dinner, I would love to hear them.

I've realized I should branch out from my usual haunts for once.

My wife and I don't eat out quite frequently enough (especially in those neighborhoods) for me to make many recommendations (and I have no idea what qualifies as a hidden gem...). That said, if you like expensive french food, N7 in Bywater is excellent (we have eaten there twice because my wife loves all things French).
