Is it the AD that fired Mario Cristobal?

Pure speculation, but he was definitely pushed out. Even FIU admin can't ignore FAUs trajectory coupled with their stagnation and that they weren't on any conference's want list. Maybe they'll make a good change

Yes. Hired and fired Cristobal. Then made a terrible hire by naming Ron Turner the HC.

He's was also the AD during the years FIU was put on probation for low APR in their sports, primarily football I believe.

Pete Garcia was raised in Miami, grew up a Miami fan, became a Miami alum, then became a coach at Miami, and then worked in the athletic department at Miami before getting hired as AD at FIU....

Makes you wonder if he didn't want FIU to compete with his #1 school.

Also oversaw the most epic brawl in CFB history between FIU and Miami back in 2006 (obviously not a great distinction but still might be the greatest fight FiU has ever put up)

FIU really is in a bad position and I don't know if there is anyone out there that can fix the problems they have. And I don't know if some of their problems are even fixable. Facilities are an easy fix, getting people to actually care or watch is a whole new problem, you have people who care or not.

Can't blame them. He had a good first 2 seasons there but it's been really bad the last 2.
