RE: Napier linked to TCU opening
If money wasn't a big deal why did ULL hurry up and throw 2 million at him? They could of just made him highest paid in the conference. The reason ULL threw him 2 million was to compete with P5 schools. That tells me money does have a lot to do with it. At least ULL thinks so.

No one ever said money wasn’t important to him.
Now that he has a top level g5 salary he is even less likely to move on.

It’s really simple. Unless you’re trying to fit into a preconceived narrative.

We all know he’s eventually leaving. The question is when. And when he does it will be bitter sweet for us but we will wish him well. That could happen tomorrow or 2-3 years. No one knows for sure.

It matters but it’s not first on his list. He got the big raise to make sure it stays further down the list.

2. TCU would be an excellent gig. They can dominate the Big 12 with OU and UT leaving. You can still get to the CFP by dominating the big 12 and getting a good OOC win. Fertile recruiting ground, outstanding facilities and a good moral compass.
3. Hard to get the dream job just going from UL, but you win at TCU and you'll be able to get any damn job you want.

That opening concerns me more than any other right now.

Good point i.e. Oklahoma and Texas leaving. The Big 12 will be up for grabs going forward.

I don’t think it would be money. TCU would probably offer $3-3.5M to start. You’re exactly right with your 3rd point. He might need to move up a tier to get to his dream job which who knows who that could be.

He has said that he is already making more money than ever dreamed, and doesn’t want to raise ‘trust-fund’ kids lol.

But we do know that he is very much make a plan and stick to it kind of guy, and he has not accomplised what he set-out to do at UL yet. He wants a Conf Champ, and a NY6 bowl game. Plus, I really think too that now he wants to stick around to see the renovations to Cajun Field done as well.

Bottom line, his family is very happy where they are at, and he has goals to make here as well, so while certainly not a 100% certainty, I think it would be unlikely move at this time.
I've heard all of those thing multiple times from head coaches. It's what you have to say. If they offer him $3-5 million he is gone. If he is in the mix and they go with someone else, you get to say he passed on it because he wants to stay and build something where he is and he loves it there. Just the way it works.

That's obviously how "it works" at sTate. 05-stirthepot
That's how it works everywhere. App has lost several coaches in recent years as well and not to the most elite P5 programs either. Those guys all loved their AD, wanted to build something, didn't care about money and cried when they announced the decision to leave. UL is just the latest to have a coach with enough success to start getting interest.

It's a huge risk to assume your success is going to continue and the big offers will continue to come.

I know we all have to convince ourselves that our school and coach is just different and special but deep down we all know that this is the way. It beats the hell out of always replacing coaches you had to fire for losing too much.

Thats great but look at Neal Brown... He was hot when he was at Tro. Everyone had him linked to everywhere, but when he left and went to WVU he kinda hit a wall. I hope Napier stays at Louisiana.

We all know Butch Jones at stAte won't be on anybodies list. We will now have 2 coaches in a row stay for more than 1 year.

Me too. I think it's good for the conference, also he seems to really like the school.

Did anyone else see the SEC shorts skit about the hot seat? The mentioned Napier being a target of one of the schools in it.

Issue is unlike Napier, Brown jumped ship too early. If he would have waited I think a more desirable opening would have presented itself. Napier is going to move to a P5 team but when he finds the right fit. I hope younger coaches are watching him because that is the model. Don't jump at the first P5 offer.

Drinkwitz is an example. Left App State after one season and has done absolutely nothing at Missouri.

So what if money isn’t high on his list but being at Alabama is???? He may take an Assistant Head Coach (HCIW) role with Saban and be the Heir apparent.

Then you have coaches like Litrell st UNT who stay and then they can't sustain the success and don't get any p5 offers and will likely be fired.

Yup. I was going to reply to his post any give him the example of Mark Hudspeth. I think others saw his situation and didn’t want to repeat it.

I don't think it is a fit. VT needs to get someone who can reconnect to the state of Virginia. Their success was built on mining Virginia talent, and they've gotten way way from that.

No data to go on, but is it possible that the Virginia talent isn’t what it used to be compared to other states represented in the ACC?

No. They just stopped getting those 4 and 5 star Tide Water guys. Their influence in Hampton Roads left with Beamer.

Setting up for the next coaching hire offering 2 mill gets you a lot more candidates

I think he goes to Florida Dan Mullen is dead man walking and they have shown they will hire G5 coaches

Moving for him would probably have to be an SEC gig. I don't see a big enough carrot short of the prestige that comes with one of those jobs luring him out.
