I don't think it is a fit. VT needs to get someone who can reconnect to the state of Virginia. Their success was built on mining Virginia talent, and they've gotten way way from that.

No data to go on, but is it possible that the Virginia talent isn’t what it used to be compared to other states represented in the ACC?

No, it's because VTech's empire has crumbled. It was a terrible program until Beamer and Foster built it up into the perennial ranked team it became. But they got old ... they were replaced, and the magic isn't there anymore and it has slid back. Recruiting has taken a massive hit. It should be stated, VTech is not only out in the mountains, but it's the only thing for miles and miles. It is perhaps the most remote school in VA, and a hard sell to recruits. It's a 6+ hour drive from Northern Virginia and a 5 hour drive from Hampton Roads, the two big population centers here.

As for talent, VA continues to produce it, but it's the other P5 getting it. Take Trayveon Henderson at Ohio State ... 5 star RB immediate starter as a freshman ... from ODU's backyard near Richmond. Lots of other schools come calling, and they're more attractive than Tech without Beamer and his pipelines.

I also think, under our actual FBS coach, we are going to start stealing the local guys more and more. The guys that aren't on the radar of the out of state P5 schools, but have promise. Tech is in trouble- before, VTech would get an unlimited pick of those no question. Now they can stay home with the home team. JMU is going to siphon some of that type of Northern Virginia talent, too.

Va Tech and K-State could be special cases that no fan base will ever be patient enough to repeat.

It is just a matter of time at this point, some blue blood is eventually going to open and throw 4M+ at him.

I mean it is not like they are killing folks this year five wins were within 8 points included Nicholls. I don't think the iron is going to get any hotter for him. He kinda is rolling the dice a little himself if he passes on a TCU-level job.

He was linked with a few SEC jobs already but evidently didn't pursue them. (South Carolina and Auburn)

Unless LSU wants a coach who will come in young, passionate, and with a clean record then I imagine Napier begins outside the SEC and eventually goes in that way.

UF will most likely need a new HC after this year though. Been rough on the Gators.

So when Shane Beamer became available, why didn't Virginia Tech fire Fuente and pick-up Beamer right away? The Beamers are royalty in Western Virginia and at Tech in general.

I thought he was already offered that last season?

He would have taken the Auburn job had they not tried to get involved in his staff hires. If LSU or Florida offer he'll go unless they pull something similar to the War Eagles.

That's a real good question, and something they're probably asking themselves now.

RE: Napier linked to TCU opening
Everyone knows a Billy will be at P5. It’s just a matter of time. What nobody knows except Napier is, what is he looking for. Until Napier gets an offer for exactly what he is after he can sit in Lafayette, make $2M and build a program, essentially from scratch.

I’m just hoping he is here to open the stadium after renovations in 2023. If he stays here that long I’ll be eternally grateful.

IMHO he wants to coach in the ACC. UNC and FSU in particular.
