I know. That surprised me. So did this.

Quote: The game was the earliest matchup by date between AP top-five teams at a campus site in the history of the poll that began in 1948-49, according to ESPN

Doesn't surprise me. When did they start playing college basketball games this early anyway? Should that wait until after Thanksgiving weekend?

Louisville loses a buy game to (Andy) Furman. You hate to see it.

Lots of turmoil for our neighbors down south. Still awaiting more NCAA sanctions. I wonder if they'll get the Okie State treatment?

Good point.

I watched the end of the game, but I really wasn't that sure which team I was rooting for. If I had to say, I'll go with Villanova. Unlike a lot of people around here, I'm not surprised Mick is doing well at UCLA. I've always been a fan of his. I wasn't completely heartbroken, but I definitely wasn't happy to see him go. But he's exceeding even my expectations - UCLA could win it all this year. I guess that's kinda the rub....

UCLA gets Gonzaga on the 23rd.

During that crazy tournament run I really got into rooting for that team. Sort of a part time crush. Not as much about Mick as it is that it’s a really fun team to watch when it’s clicking. They murder teams with their midrange game. Drives the stats guys bonkers.

Also, we recruited Tiger Campbell and Jaquez to UC so I’ve known about them for a while.

I would watch more of them if they didn't play so late at night. Last year it was a good reminder of the toughness and intensity a real team plays with when we were watching the our team fold. I know some hate Mick, but he has done a great job and still pays respect to UC. Wes Miller has talked about how willing Cronin is to talk to him over the phone (which was among other things a big factor in Dermarr getting his position). If you watch the end of Mick's press conference, he talks about how Jalen Clark has some Cincinnati in him.

South Florida lost to Georgia Southern.
Tulane lost to Southern.
Tulsa lost to Air Force.

Move to the Big12 can’t come soon enough. Won’t miss this garbage every year.

Bolded, you're so right and this has been the norm in AAC basketball, not the exception. The bottom of this league has been an anchor for the top tier and it never gets better.

I can't wait to see UC's first B12 basketball schedule, imagining the prime time matchups we'll begin witnessing every season.

Yeah - evidently Evansville is not very good. The final was 81-43 Belmont. But Belmont has a good program.

Dayton loses to UMass-Lowell (not THE UMass)

Wichita State escapes from another directional Alabama school, pulling away from South Alabama with free throws at the end to win by 6 points at home.

*******...Houston and Memphis are going to put up some scores in conference this year...

Gonzaga is killing 5th ranked Texas at home. Timme might go for 40.

I had no clue that UT was so highly ranked in Chris Beard's first season there.

I always liked Mick, from day one to his last day. It was probably time though. I've never pretended to be a basketball guy, but it seems like Mick is a great basketball coach and a ok to good recruiter. The current situation that Cincinnati is in, it probably needs a great recruiter. It's a better fit for all parties involved.

Glad to see him doing well.

RE: 2021-22 College Basketball Season General Thread
I watched Mick’s postgame media after they beat Nova. He is so much less wound up there than he was here. He sorta referenced the recruiting bit. One of the reporters asked something about UC and he as always was very complimentary. Said the goal at UC was to play as hard as Jay Wright’s teams and once they did that they went to 9 straight tournaments. He also referenced that his team now is filled with guys who are much better offensively than what he generally had up and down the roster here. Not just recruiting to UCLA, he said not many eastern schools want to recruit the west coast hard - makes it easier for him to recruit but harder to schedule games like Nova since nobody wants to come all the way out to an area they don’t recruit.

He’s a smart dude. I don’t think it was just the UCLA blue blood and history that interested him. I think he saw fertile recruiting areas on the coast that were under utilized and he’s reaping those benefits.

Interesting post based upon his post-game comments; thanks for sharing.

In some ways, I think Mick made UC more of a pressure job for himself than what he's experiencing at UCLA and I actually mean that in the most positive sense. Being an alumnus and lifelong Cincinnatian, and following the second most successful coach in UC history, a potential hall of famer, he took the weight of the world upon his shoulders. He succeeded on many levels here, on and off the court, but his move in retrospect appears to have been mutually beneficial for these universities.

They almost lost in the play-in game last year. Posters on here would be laughing and talking about how he's about the get fired had they not made that crazy tourney run. It's hilarious.

As for recruiting the west coast, it doesn't take a genius to see that there was an opportunity there, especially with Arizona floundering. He's a very good coach in a great situation and he had some luck last year in the tourney that he didn't have before and narratives are now being created around it.

Mutually beneficial? Yes, it's been just great at UC since he left . . . I'm excited about Miller and the team, but this is delusional.
