Exclamation Western Kentucky at Rice
When HBU's offensive coordinator Zach Kittley was hired by Western Kentucky, soon to be followed by HBU players Bailey Zappe (QB), Jerreth Sterns, Josh Sterns, and Ben Ratzlaff (WRs), I hoped we would play them early on, before they could fully incorporate the new system.

No such luck. I will be surprised if they don't score 40+ on Saturday. The Hilltoppers could be the biggest threat to U.T.S.A.'s undefeated season, assuming that Western Kentucky wins the East.

Zappe has only passed for 3713 yards and 37 TDs so far... no big deal
04-jawdrop

WKU is averaging 41.3 a game so far and 514ypg total offense.

Jerreth Sterns? 104rec/1266y/11TD

RE: Western Kentucky at Rice
And their pass-happy offense still has two running backs with 5+ yards per carry compared to our one.

Expect a lot of penalties Saturday. We average 7.4 per game; they average 6.9 per game. Between 14 penalties, our three-and-outs, and what I expect to be their frequent kickoffs, this game could drag on.

Hard to compare the defenses since their fast pace on offense leads to the defense facing 14 more plays per game than we do, and they haven't had nearly as many blowouts, so they saw the first string a lot longer than we have (against an admittedly weaker schedule). I will point out that their 5-4 could easily be 8-1: @ Army, vs Indiana, and vs UTSA were lost by a combined 11 points. We lost to just UTSA by 4x that.

You don’t really believe the current Owl staff could win an OT game, do you? There would have to be some major changes to their game calling approach.

But I don’t think it will come to that with WKU’s high octane passing offense.

WKU 49 - Rice 13 (missed PAT)

I also predict 1500 butts-in-seats.

Good point. I don’t want to take our chances in OT. And if 31 is the new 30, then 32 is the new 31.

Rice 32, WKU 24.

Which could still happen in OT, but it won’t. Reg-u-la-tion.

Potential game-tying WKU tying TD wiped off the board after video review though.

Still gotta come down to the last minute.

Georgia could be the biggest threat to UTsA’s undefeated season,
Assuming Cincinnati and Georgia both lose two games over the next 4 weeks.

First, we need to get it to OT.

2015 - Western Kentucky 49, @Rice 10
(35-10 at half)

2016 - @Western Kentucky 46, Rice 14
(30-7 at half)

Western Kentucky was 12-2 in 2015, and 11-3 in 2016.

RE: Western Kentucky at Rice
Rice has not scored >30 against an FBS opponent this season. Rice scored 0 against UTSA and 24 against Charlotte.

WKU has not scored <31 this season. WKU scored 46 against UTSA and 45 against Charlotte.

Anyone predicting Rice to score >30 or WKU to score <31 is certainly going against the grain!

WKU 45, Rice 17 and the game doesn't feel competitive at the half. I'll be happy if I'm wrong though!

RE: Western Kentucky at Rice
Always a dilemma at times like this - would I rather support my guys or would I rather be right?

Generally speaking, if it is a competition, like the UAB contest, I try to be right. If there is nothing at stake, I try to support my guys.

I used to have a bookie friend who let me bet without vig. If I felt I could not bet Rice, I didn't bet. I just could not bet on Texas or Houston against Rice. Still a space in my wallet where hundreds of dollars could have been.

ESPN+ feed is up ... RB Meyers is out, shown on the sidelines without pads. And Montero is also out. Yikes!
