You keep him, you’re postponing the inevitable AND starting in AAC with a new coach. Have to fire him now and give the new coach a year before the conference switch.

No such luck. I will be surprised if they don't score 40+ on Saturday. The Hilltoppers could be the biggest threat to U.T.S.A.'s undefeated season, assuming that Western Kentucky wins the East.

Georgia could be the biggest threat to UTsA’s undefeated season,
Assuming Cincinnati and Georgia both lose two games over the next 4 weeks.

I don't think a "name" school will play UTSA in a bowl. All downside.

I don’t believe a school would decline a bowl invite to avoid playing UTSA.

They will play games with the invite to avoid UTSA ala Notre Dame going to the Hawaii Bowl back when we still liked David B.

What the hell is Rice waiting for? Fire Bloomgren now. Texas may be firing their coach also. Kansas 21 Texas 14 and Texas just fumbled.

Who said this? Was this actually said on one of the broadcasts? I know we actually feel this way.

TCU fired Gary Patterson for being 3-5, after a couple of decades of success.

Indeed they did! So will we wait for a couple of decades of 3-9 before we move in a different direction? The Rice Way!!! Time to change the f****** mindset!

We should consider hiring him

West stands, 13 November 2021
Top: 2 minutes left in 1st quarter
Center: 3rd quarter
Bottom: 2 minutes left in 4th quarter

Most Rice students that come to the game now sit over there in the shade.
There were a few members of the swim team, and a flag-waving promoter of the Rally Club on the east side.

The cumulative volunteer spirit organizations - cheerleaders, dance team, and The MOB likely exceeded the rest of the students in attendance, but there is no way of knowing for sure.

600 cheer kids, and their associated support personnel (parents, coaches) were also over there, but they left after half time. They have to purchase tickets as I understand it. (Correct me if I'm mistaken, please.)

Announced attendance: 17,883

For reference, this image is from 14 November 2015.
(I don't recall when it was taken during the game.)

And this, from the USM game on 27 October 2012 (a bowl season).

I see me and my family in that first picture, and we're gone in the next two. Went to the R room for a bit, then left. I don't know if the cheer parents bought tickets... I know that a few of them (politely) crashed the R-Assoc tailgate

Pizza ran out in the first quarter... FIRST QUARTER!!!!

and I have NO IDEA why Chic-Fil-A took 3+ minutes PER PERSON to hand out pre-cooked food, bags of chips and bottled drinks.

It was beyond ridiculous. It was as if after each person left, they once again forgot where anything was and had to search for everything. I mean, they had a crate of regular sandwiches, a crate of 'spicy'. A box of waffle chips, a box of cookies and a cooler of drinks. I literally waited for 90 seconds... I timed them for them to find a 'coke' for the person in front of me. How is the drink box not segregated and/or labeled?? There was a line 15 people deep for the only 'food' available.... and solely because of the lack of organization. You should be handing that entire order out in 90 seconds. High school games manned by volunteers do better. We should cater the sandwiches and hand them out ourselves. It's $7.50 for a $4 regular price sandwich.... overcooked and soggy. And $3 for a single, chocolate chip cookie or small bag of chips.

SOme student organization could make a fortune. Use the money to renovate the concessions.

Sad. That's what chronic losing and playing schools that no one cares about will do.

I guess that's what some call the "TCU model".

I think it's more chronic losing than playing schools that no one cares about. And regardless, playing schools that no one cares about is the result of chronic losing. You keep falling out of conferences with anyone that anybody cares about playing.

Rice just hit the ultimate Hail Mary and got a frankly incredible lifeline (probably more out of a desire by AAC to keep a foothold in the Houston market than anything Rice did). Now Rice will be playing SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, and Navy, along with two other Texas schools. That's as close as Rice could possibly come at this point to getting rid of the "schools that no one cares about" problem. Now it is up to Rice to get rid of the "chronic losing" problem.

And nobody else.

Yeah I agree. This is probably the best post-SWC conference affiliation that Rice has had. Everyone in our division should strike some local interest. Rice has to quit losing so often and so badly. It has to stop. I hope the university has fully committed itself to turning football and basketball around. We've done too poorly, for too long. It's unacceptable by any measure.

LOL at Grungy... and +1 to Numbers and Ourland.

This was an absolute GIFT to us, likely in large part based on the Presidents at SMU and Tulane and perhaps a bit, Navy. IDK about Tulsa, but I know the others weren't interested in us.... don't value academics/understand that its hard like the above.

I give JK props for that portion, but he doesn't own them. His background certainly lent credibility to the pitch in a way that Ranger Rick probably couldn't have done... but this is about as close to a Magnolia League as we're going to get... and if we don't get our act together, they will ALL move on from us again, leaving us at best with schools that don't nearly have our restrictions.

I am optimistic about baseball's return. Hate how it came about, but I can't fix that.
I am trusting others about basketball. I don't see it.
Football is THE driver of realignment, and will continue to be so. The fact that Memphis, with their long basketball history has never been seriously courted makes that very clear. We NEED to figure this out.
