I got the station for UC football. I guess I’ll get rid of it once there’s no more men’s basketball games for the season on that station.

Extremely quiet start to the season (for obvious reasons), but I'm pumped to see what this team actually looks like. I have a weird feeling that they're going to surprise us...just don't know if it'll be a good or bad surprise

My guess for the line was Cats -8.5. Checked last night and it's Cats -9.5. I have no idea what's going to happen.

Looks like Evansville has been on a bad run. This will be year 3 with their coach Todd Lickliter...If that name sounds familiar, he led Butler to a couple sweet 16's before coaching at Iowa back in the day.

I was thinking the same thing. Anything pre-covid seems like a million years ago at this point.

Starting lineup would appear to be:

PG- Saunders
SG- DeJulius
SF- Newman
PF- Davenport
C- Ado

We'll have a big advantage on talent, size, and depth tonight.

Evansville's advantage is that they have a core group of players who have played together for 3 seasons already and everyone within that core can shoot the 3 ball well.

They can't hire two bad coaches in a row, can they?

I don't expect them to come out as world beaters right off the bat, but these early season should-be-a-gimme games were very telling what lay ahead for us with... the prior coach.

Don't or didn't they have the Mr. Ohio who committed to X, then to us, then went to Nebraska for a minute, and then to Evansville?

What's his name and is he still at Evansville?

I was hoping to see Samari Curtis play but he has moved again:

Given the coaching boondoggle, COVID year, and a completely overhauled roster, I am not going to view potential lackluster performances early in year one as any sort of bellwether for this regime.

DeJulius at SG would be . . . let's say interesting. Saunders as the starting PG seems kinda bold too. I wonder how the minutes will shake out between those two, MAW, Madsen, and McGinnis.

Saunders is the guy I'm most excited to see this year. I thought he looked like he could be a damn good player last year. So freaking fast. Could get to the rim and finish. Needs to refine his jump shot. The difference between freshman PGs and sophomore PGs when it comes to sloppy turnovers is almost always huge.

DDJ was the enigma last year. His 3 point shooting was such a dropoff from Michigan. He often looked like a good playmaker but rarely finished. His free throw shooting makes me think he should be a pretty good shooter. Hoping playing off the ball will help.

The size and experience of the front court on this team has me excited that they are at the very least going to be tough to score on. If they can get back to being a top 50 defense they are going to have a huge jump in quality even if the offense still struggles for a while.

I know we moved DDJ to the 2 off the ball this offseason. Hoping someone on this staff was able to work on his shot. Last year teams backed off and dared him to shoot. Would not be ideal for a SG.

A few educated guesses based on what info is going around.

I believe the expectation is to put DeJulius in a role closer to his time at Michigan which was off the ball scorer/shooter who can also handle the ball.

Saunders probably only gets 15 to 20 minutes a game while MAW gets 25 to 30. Saunders starts for now, MAW basically can sub all three guard/wing spots and probably plays when it the matters at winning time.

Ody should get a lot of minutes. The center rotation will probably be fluid early.

Looking forward to this good, bad, or ugly. For me, tonight puts a lid on the past regime and opens a new door to get back to business playing tough-n-nasty Bearcats basketball!

It’s the right move and consistent with University policy. I wonder how they will enforce it and how many people will take it off once inside. I read you can take it off if actively eating or drinking. Will the anti-mask crowd basically have a beverage in hand to work around this. Should be interesting.
