Conference Realignment News
I know I know another realignment thread.

The latest is that WKU and MTSU will stay in CUSA. But it really depends on MTSU. I was having a gut feeling that could happen after the gor request. So perhaps ESPN balked at given more money to the MAC.

RE: Conference Realignment News
Seriously though, MTSU is crazy if they want to be in this mess of a CUSA over the MAC. And in case they do, WKU should be trying to get NDSU and the MAC on board with WKU/NDSU in that situation. Not quite as extreme as when people wondered if Marshall was seriously weighing Sun Belt vs CUSA but still... What's left of CUSA is a joke, what on earth is in the pros list for CUSA if MTSU is debating CUSA vs MAC?

The distance from Mufreesboro to El Paso isn't that much different than to Fargo.

How much is the payouts from the 9 schools leaving the CUSA? I bet that is part of the equation financially.

RE: Conference Realignment News
Rolling in exit fee/Liberty money is about the only positive I see for CUSA. From what I can find the MAC was already getting more media money than the CUSA even before the CUSA lost practically everyone. The MAC will be better on the field/court, the geography sucks for CUSA, it looks like both conferences will need a new media deal in the next few years which doesn't seem likely to go well for CUSA, and one seems very stable while the other is very unstable on the bottom rung of the FBS ladder.

2.0 was so yesterday. Long reply times, etc...too be honest probably should have named this thread wku/mtsu to stay in CUSA. Would be more in line with the original topic.

RE: Conference Realignment News
Or just "Non-JMU Realignment News". Anyway, what's done is done.

I think it's probably best for MTSU and WKU to stay in CUSA for now. It doesn't seem like ESPN is going to be upping the MAC's allowance much, if at all, so the pie would essentially be the same size but with two more slices. It would also deviate from the MAC's tight geographic connections. Now, should two schools ever consider leaving or dropping down to the next level, I think WKU and MTSU are the first and second numbers to call.

RE: WKU/MTSU Toc Stay in CUSA? CRN
It sounds more like the MAC wasn't interested than MTSU and WKU wanting to stay in CUSA.
For CUSA and its new members it must feel like a win, but I doubt it feels that way to MTSU or WKU.
The MAC and the Sun Belt are two of the most stable conferences, but seemed to be headed in opposite directions. The MAC just seems happy to exist, while the Sun Belt is trying hard to enhance its brand.

I think it was obvious the MAC didn't want to expand when they asked for a 15 year GOR. No team would really want to be committed that long to a conference and media deal.

Same. I still have interest in this stuff. The difference is we don't have to worry about JMU's role in it.

Changing a title is quite easy hehe. But yeah totally understand both sides. But like many have interest in conference realignment. The thread title is a bit bipolar haha.

RE: Conference Realignment News
I don't expect too many more moves regarding FBS with perhaps the exception of CUSA. I wonder with WKU and MTSU possibly staying put if that will encourage UMass to join. I don't see UConn making that move.. even for just football.
I believe the FCS will probably have the most amount of moves in the near future. I think the ASun wants to be a stronger force in FCS and may try to make a big move.
CAA's best move is perhaps Monmouth (and that is quite sad for them). They cannot get stronger aside from just adding more schools.
