Stays put for now, unless they get lucky with a B12 invite.

Whenever the current AAC media deal expires, they might reconsider. SBC has better teams and geography for them, but they are getting paid something like $7-8 million a year, while new members get around $2 million. Thats financial handcuffs for them. They also will have a chance to win the AAC going forward with the weaker competition.

Gives Mike Houston a raise to $10 million a year.

Now I see why Houston wanted to go to ECU so bad - they are morons with lots of money.

Troy picked up a new HC from U. of Kentucky. Apparently a well thought of assistant by other SEC coaches and he returns to Troy where he coached before.

With Napier getting plucked and Chadwell on the short list to get plucked, the Sun Belt median could go down if the replacements are brought in at less than $775k.
I’m sure Cig and his wife are watching the developments to see what his FBS salary is going to be.

Does his FBS salary kick in 2023?

His salary will ratchet up to around 700k over the three year transition period.

Your fears are misplaced, if anything the median salaries are going up, and JMU will have to work to keep up with the neighborhood Jones. Louisiana fans say they offered Napier $3.2m to stay, and are looking to go big on his replacement. I suspect the story will be the same at Coastal, they've got a big fish bankrolling that program.

Think you may be mixing up mean versus median. As long as Coastal and Louisiana are above $775,000 (or whatever the exact median is now) it will have no impact whether they pay $1M or $5M. It's if the lower half of the schools decide to up their ante and spend more.

I view it as relative irrelevant either way. The trend is SBC salaries are going up, and it will be a premier G5. JMU will have to grow quickly to keep up and be competitive in many ways. Its not a scrub conference like CUSA is.

RE: Conference Realignment News
Gotta imagine the amount it goes up due to the clause in his contract is already locked in. From here on out, as long as Cig wins enough to stay around then it'll just be whatever it takes to keep him around although I'm sure mean and median SBC salaries will come up in any negotiations.

Whenever it's time to find a new coach you gotta think JMU will want to step up more towards the top of the conference instead of median so that's when it likely could become more relevant.

Seems a little odd ... why would our waiver be linked to the other two schools or CUSA?

Sounds like they are being a bit lazy in NCAA land and just want to rubber stamp all of them at the same time.

Perhaps because all the FCS schools are moving at the same time? I think they want the same policy to apply to all three. If JMU got it granted, but not SH or JSU didn't that could look like favoritism.
If we were the only FCS school transitioning, I thing it would be a lot easier.
Gotta think it would be in everyone's interest to allow all the schools to move up sooner.

Sort of, but it also seems like we're just the odd beneficiary of the CUSA needing JSU/SHSU to be eligible for all their stuff right away to have numbers instead of trying to hang onto USM/ODU/MU. Basically, seems like maybe CUSA would like their new members to be fully transitioned sooner and we might get some help with that. Also, should be a heck of a lot easier for all the FCS teams to transition than usual because of the COVID flexibility on schollies and all of them (us) being well above 63 already at the moment.

RE: Conference Realignment News
I'm assuming its two-fold, (1) NCAA wants to easily apply the same policy/process for all three FCS to FBS schools to avoid any future complaints, (2) the NCAA wants to ensure some conference stability through the next 3 years.

Regarding the stability - assuming the Marshall, ODU and Southern Miss get to leave right away, CUSA has 11 schools next fall, no big deal. However, if AAC is pushing to add their 6 teams early as well, that leaves CUSA with 5, which I think is a big deal. So does AAC want the 6 right away? Do they only want the 6 if something else happens? Do the 6 want to go right away? That is a lot of wants to figure out and accommodate.

Further, in 2023 once all 9 teams are gone from CUSA, they only have 7 if SHSU and JSU are still in the second year of transition (14 - 9 + Liberty + NMSU). I'm not sure if that is a big deal or not, but the NCAA might want CUSA at 9 full members in 2023 and as such are figuring out what to do in 2022 to make that happen.

RE: Conference Realignment News
with all of the conference realignment this year, I feel like the NCAA will say "no" to any waivers or exceptions just because 'it's easier' to stick to what's on the rules/bylaws... not unlike a certain conference we all know of.

If so, and the new AAC schools leave CUSA, that conference seems boned. They might lose fbs status, at least temporarily.

My guess is they say yes, but potentially with some restrictions. And to the earlier points made, what they so for one they need to do for all to appear impartial.
