This team isn’t rolling over and dying. We’ve done well on the glass so far in this half. Can’t remember Indiana getting an offensive rebound.

Our talentless losers (TM: Wickersham) are down 8 with 9 minutes left.

If we had even an average game from Farrakhan, this would be a super close game. He can’t buy a bucket at all.

And Akron leads OSU by a point with 4 minutes to go.

Couple of surprising games, no doubt.

RE: Upcoming Indiana game
You think when hit less than 20% from beyond the arc you would stop ! Indiana is weak and poorly coached.

Akron loses by 1 on an OSU FG with 0.3 seconds left.

MAC had a couple of really good games.

RE: Upcoming Indiana game
Fun 2nd half. Did so many things well that it helped to wash the nasty taste of the first half out of my mouth. We were spectacular on the boards. Indiana only had 5 OREBs the whole game, and only one in the 2nd half that I can remember (a crucial one on a bricked free throw). Nathan Scott and Colin Golson did a tremendous job on TJD as well.

The offense became the Farrakhan show at the end, but Bryce McBride was the guy who brought us back into the game with some key baskets and free throws. We have a lot of work to do on that end, but I see some semblance of a decent offense, which is a nice change up from the Murphy era.

Hopefully this gives us some confidence going into Friday against Illinois State. Impressive start for this team, even in defeat.

RE: Upcoming Indiana game
When you shoot close to 15% from beyond the arc you deserve to lose. That's not good defense that is poor coaching.

Expert analysis as usual.

Great summary, Sam! And tremendous game!! EMU has a legit team. They looked nervous for 2/3 of the game and were not following through with their shots. Great call out to our team (co)captain McBride- he might have been the only one not nervous and clearly started that comeback. Golson played nervous the whole game but was somehow steadily productive. And Farrakhan finally found his confidence… and what a show he put on in the end!

Very fun game to watch even in a loss. I am so excited to see what happens when this team settles in!

Good call on Golson. His numbers look worse than he actually was. Some forced shots at the beginning, but also some strong attempts that just rimmed out. He looks like he’s going to be a player, especially when he gets to go against MAC-level forwards.

Sam, I am curious to your take on TJD:
He had 21 points (on 9/14 shooting) with 14 rebounds and 3 assists. Did NScott and Golson really do a good job against him or did it just feel like they did especially towards the end of the game? I totally agreed with you when you stated it, but then I look at the stats…

(Same reverse/thing Golson offensively, I felt he had a good game, then looked looked at the stats as you point out…)

RE: Upcoming Indiana game
Nice that EMU outscored Indiana 43-32 in the second-half. EMU can build on that.

EMU lost by only 6-points. The majority of Indiana fans said they’d win by 40 points. They didn’t like my evaluation of Indiana that was less than favorable. Not surprised that only one Indiana player made half his fga’s. Indiana should never been rated 29th in the nation. Not a top-flight team.

Indiana fans both predicted and bet Indiana would beat the 24-point spread. Nice to watch 17,000 fans so quietly sitting on their hands in the second half as EMU stormed back. Also the perplexed look on Woodson face.,

EMU now deserves to get some respect in the ratings. Should have big effect on EMU’s rankings.

EMU Lost game by six-points 68-62 without Mo Njie our best Center. Do think we would have won if he played. Hopefully he’s be back to practice sometime this week.

Learned a lot of things in this game. EMU has a good interior defense. Held Indiana to shooting but 33 percent on two’s. N.Scott was EMU’sbest interior defender. N.Scott, Spottsville, and Golson did a great job on defensive boards.

But even though Indiana shot but 16.7 percent (4-24) on three’s, EMU didn’t do a particularly good job defending the three ball as Indiana just missed wide-open open shots.

EMU’s defense could be even better if EMU would pressure to ball more and make more steals. Also EMU committed some dumb fouls as they forced Indiana players into some bad shots from eight feet or more away. McBride had four fouls, and two of them were shooting fouls. Noah committed 2 shooting fouls, Spottsville committed one shooting foul. Those were all unnecessary as each defender caused Indiana players to take bad shots.

EMU needs some plays that will allow EMU to make some easy baskets at the rim. HC Heath has to put in some pro back-door cuts, and lobs at the rim. Also needs to fast break more off defensive rebounds, and like to see some leak-outs.

I said to win game EMU had to hold Indiana to 5-three’s and 13-fouls. But EMU committed 20 fouls but thankfully EMU outscored Indiana 13-12 at the foul-line. Held Indiana to hitting 4-three’s.

EMU going forward should have played a more aggressive defense and caused more turnovers than they did.

EMU got hozed by refs on some calls. For instance, Golson has a clean takeaway.

EMU’s N. Scott, Spottsville, and Golson did a great job on the boards. EmU had two more offensive rebounds than Indiana did.

Observations on individual players:

Right now, Noah’s an off-guard, not a point guard. No assists in the game. Offense flows better when M. Scott handles the ball. M. Scott, McBride and Scottsville should handle the point.

Binelli should be limited to catch and shoot three’s. Can’t shoot off his dribble.

Spottsville went 3-4 on three’s in Goshen exhibition game. Beautiful form. Took no three’s tonight. Should have.

Golson is a baseline or three point shooter. Can’t mix it up inside against good bigs. Never should have taken 15-fga’s.

Don’t want to see Noah have such a disastrous first half. I know what Noah has to do to score against bigs inside. Will let him know.

Allocation of playing time has a way to go. M. Scott underutilizedv in the second half. Cost EMU a win.

He’s an All-American. We were never going to shut him down, but he didn’t have a field goal in the last 10 minutes of the game. We also did well to minimize his opportunities at 2nd chances. Nathan Scott really used his length well in the paint. Okongo did some good things tonight, but we were at our best with Scott at center in a small-ball lineup.
